• Other Clusters

• UK-V Cluster

• Component Availability

• Overall Schedule

• Prospects

Page 2: Progress Towards Production of Forward Modules

CS Cluster

• Qualification modules produced and results presented during SCT week

• CERN still encountering difficulties with electrical tests

• Krakow encountering difficulties in multi-hybrids testing using pseudo-optical via AERO

• Request for qualification imminent

Page 3: Progress Towards Production of Forward Modules

CE Cluster

• Qualification modules produced at NIKHEF presented during SCT week

• Issues relating to bad channel numbers now partially resolved

• Long Term Test now completed and all modules pass

• .Redundancy test requires software mods• Request for qualification imminent• Freiburg and MPI still at pre-qualification stage.

Page 4: Progress Towards Production of Forward Modules

UK-V ClusterUK-N• Qualification modules assembled at Manchester and

metrology results presented during SCT week• 4 bonded at Liverpool and electrical results presented. • Module showing high currents now holding volts at

350V 660nA to 340V and 1.1µA at 350V on standard SCTDAQ test (current slowly falling at 350V)

• 5th module constructed (improved XY parameters), now bonded at Liverpool and completing electrical testing

• Glasgow have provisionally passed pre-qualification based on two modules wire-bonded there.

• First Glasgow qualification module provided by Manchester and success critical for qualification.

Page 5: Progress Towards Production of Forward Modules

UK-V Cluster

Valencia• Effort switched to pre-qualification on middle modules• Jigs & bonding programme prepared for middle modules • Outers metrology results presented during SCT week• Concerns on S-curves in electrical tests of pre-

qualification modules now largely overcome• Electrical testing cross-checked with Liverpool and

metrology cross-checked with Geneva, Liverpool and MPI

Page 6: Progress Towards Production of Forward Modules

Component Availability

• Hybrids and spines available for new modules continue to be in short supply

Page 7: Progress Towards Production of Forward Modules

Component Availability

• Hybrid production slowed due to quality control issues (1/3 needing bonding rework from May, 1/4 needing bonding rework from June)

• Weak bond related problems being addressed• Next batch to be 20 dummy hybrids to fully

check quality• 2-3 weeks before next delivery of useable

hybrids• Agreement to get reworked hybrids as soon as

possible to speed up production

Page 8: Progress Towards Production of Forward Modules

Component Availability

• Hans-Guenther and Alex were asked (26/6/03) to prepare a schedule for spines, assuming ISTC contract starts 1st August and AlN delivered by then.

Prospects• Qualification is proving much slower than hoped

• Sites are very nervous about getting started in a production mode

• Electrical testing proving difficult and very time consuming

• Problems (mostly minor) still being encountered on some quality issues and being solved

Modules suitable for tracking particles with the required low noise occupancies and within the specified tolerances are being regularly produced in all 3 forward clusters
