Sir Lynden Pindling

The father of the nation

The Rt. Hon. Sir Lynden Oscar Pindling, KCMG, OM, PC, JP (22 March 1930 – 26 August 2000), is regarded as the "Father of the Nation" of the Bahamas, having led it to Majority Rule on 10 January 1967 and to inde-pendence on 10 July 1973. He served as the first black premier of the Colony of the Bahama Islands from 1967 to 1969 and as Prime Minister of the Bahamas from 1969 to 1992. He was leader of the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) from 1965 to 1997 when he resigned from public life.Pindling won an unbroken string of general elections until 1992, when the PLP lost to the Free National Movement led by Hubert Alexander Ingra-ham. He conceded defeat with the words: "the people of this great little democracy have spoken in a most dignified and eloquent manner (and) the voice of the people, is the voice of God".Pindling was a member of the Imperial Privy Council, and he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1983.

Perry Christie

The Rt. Hon. Perry Gladstone Christie, PC, MP (born 21 August 1943), is a Bahamian politician who has served as Prime Minister of the Bahamas since May 2012; previ-ously he was Prime Minister from 2002 to 2007. He is also a former athlete.Christie's party, the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP), was defeated in the May 2007 general election, taking 18 seats against 23 for the FNM, and Christie conceded defeat in a phone call to FNM leader Ingraham.[1] After the new FNM government was sworn in, Christie was sworn in as leader of the Official Opposition.

Hubert Ingraham

Hubert Alexander Ingraham (born 1947) is a Bahamian political figure who was Prime Minister of the Bahamas from August 1992 to May 2002 and again from May 2007 to May 2012. He is a member of the Free National Movement Party (FNM). Prior to the 2012 election, he was the FNM's Party Leader and was the Member of Parliament for the North Abaco constituency. He served as Leader of the Opposi-tion in the House of Assembly from 2005 to 2007.In the historic election of August 1992, in which the FNM unseated the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP), Ingraham succeeded Prime
