Executive Summary
One of the main goal of SMART-SPACE Project is to implement capacity building and training
actions for intermediaries. Economic, industrial and structural disparities among Alpine
areas require local pilots to collect and harmonize as many elements and disparities as
possible and reach an Alpine vision.
Intermediaries, as one of the main target stakeholders, have an ever-increasing decisive role
in helping SMEs to succeed digital transformation of their business.
This document summarizes Training and cross-fertilization actions conducted in Piedmont
(Italy). The pilot actions mainly addressed clusters, technology parks, chambers of
commerce and other local intermediaries actively involved in supporting companies’
digitalization.
In particular, CSP organized:
An Operator Training Course: 40 hours addressing 15 Intermediaries
Cross-fertilization actions: matching event to foster cross-collaborations and to put
together methodologies and tools, involving 14 innovation clusters/regional
intermediaries.
The actions described are the result of a collaboration with experts with different profiles:
experts in management (Faculty of economics and commerce of Turin), teachers of
Polytechnic of Turin, representatives of DIH, regional Chamber of Commerce and IT/IoT
specialists.

come segue:

3. Cross-fertilization Actions
1.4. Summary of the action
The cross-fertilization actions have had the main goal of providing the managers of Alpine
Space Intermediaries with meeting moments to stimulate cooperation, the knowledge and
ideas exchanging for joint projects.
The Operator Training Couse has proved to be a useful tool for meeting in a single point the
different actors able to govern the digital evolution of companies. The interactive modality
with which the learning sessions were given activated an open and constructive dialogue
between the different interested parties right from the start to a constructive comparison.
The national network Impresa 4.0, made up of numerous points distributed throughout the
national territory, was born in fact to accompany and support companies in the digital
transformation 4.0 with a synergistic and complementary approach.
The main structures to which it is possible to apply for different activities and purposes and
which deal with the dissemination of knowledge related to the advantages deriving from
investments in technologies in the field of Business 4.0 as well as assisting companies in
understanding their digital maturity by identifying the priority areas of intervention are:
DIH (Digital Innovation Hub): technological district defined by the government as "a
bridge between business, research and finance" to help SMEs adapt to the new
industrial revolution. These are centers on the territory, objectives for raising
awareness among companies on existing opportunities in the Industry 4.0 area;
support in the planning of innovative investments and access to public and private
financing instruments; addressing to Industry 4.0 Competence Center, business
mentoring service and interaction with European DIHs. Piedmont DIH has been
founded by Confindustria Piedmont so is closer to industrial sector companies.
Compence Centre: realities that refer to some Italian universities with the aim of
intensifying relations between research and industry and that are research armed
arm of the DIH.
PID (Punti di Impresa Digitale): points of local dissemination of basic knowledge on
technologies in the Industry 4.0 environment referred to Chambers of Commerce.
SMART-SPACE – D.T3.1.5 Training and cross-fertilization actions in Italy-Piedmont addressed to intermediaries
Innovation clusters: as agents of innovation in the regional territory, the Piedmont
innovation hubs promote technology transfer, the sharing of structures and the
exchange of knowledge and skills, according to the approach of Private Public
Partnership (PPP). In general, Innovation clusters collect PMI and Research Centers
of different sectors on the base of the thematic (Agrifood, Energy and Clean
Technologies, Green Chemistry and Advanced Materials, ICT, Life Sciences, Smart
Products and Manufacturing, Textile)
In the Operator Training Course all the actors of national network Impresa 4.0 at regional
level were present and ,during the course, they exposed the need to share tools,
approaches and methodologies in terms of sharing. PID, DIH have declared their full
willingness to expose their modus operandi during the last lesson in which the MESAP
cluster would exhibit its own.
The contents, in according to the sharing training plan, were:
The approach with companies: tools and methods and follow-up of the training
program: matching event among regional intermediaries and innovation clusters to
promote and share how they support SMEs on digital transformation
o Turin Chamber of Commerce and PID services for business innovation and
digitalization
o MESAP activities
o DIH (Digital Innovation Hub) Piemonte e Valle d’Aosta mission
On the basis of the type of topics covered and the target Project, the following subjects
were present to the matching event as:
students: representatives of Chamber of Commerce operating at regional level,
Innovation clusters, technological parks, Piedmont Agencies that assist companies
also for businesses at international level;
expert trainer: PID digital promoter (Turin and Alessandria Chamber of Commerce),
MESAP Technical Advisor, DIH Technology and Innovation Advisor.
In order to guarantee the continuative presence of the people, the matching event was
performed in:
2 hours at the beginning of the last lesson of the Operator Training Course.

1.6. Learning and feedbacks
The cross-fertilization action highlighted the commonalities and differences between the
different types if assessments.
Some of the participants were not aware of the specifics tools adopted by other subjects
and considered the matching evet an important way to share knowledge and to exchange
their own approaches to the SMEs.
Participants also confirmed the need of cooperation among intermediaries and clusters at
regional, transalpine and national level.
4. Conclusions
Intermediary Pilot Action was very useful to share tools, point of view, approaches and
methodologies adopted by different kind of cluster into the complex network of Industry
4.0. It’s important to create a synergic collaboration among the actors in order to help SMEs
in the best way and providing them with all the information, suggestions, tools that they
need. The target, very well clear for all the Intermediaries, is stimulate/support/improve
digitalization process on benefit of SMEs.
