• MazsalacaBaptistChurchwasestablishedin1931.Throughtheyearsithasalwaysbeenactiveandnoticeableintheneighborhood.In1939itstartstheconstructionofthechurchbuilding.Year1940bringsmanychanges,WorldWarIIleavesitsmarkaswell,neverthelessthecongregationcontinuestopreachthegospelandfurnishthechurch.Themostdifficulttimewasinthe1960-tieswhenthecommunistgovernmenttriedtoexpropriatethechurchbuilding.Pastorwasdeprivedoftherightstopreachandcongregationmemberswereemotionallyhumiliatedinworkplacesandschools.ChurchwasgreatlysupportedthroughprayersandcorrespondencebyitsfounderArnoldsŪsis(1910-1998),whowasbroughttoCleveland,Ohiobytheupheavalofthewar.Inthe1990-tiescircumstanceschangeagainandprovidenewopportunities-Sundayschoolactivities,preachingoutsidethepremisesofthechurch,collaborationwithChristiansabroad.ThenumberofSundayschoolstudentsgrows,moreroomisneededandaprojectforextendingtheutilityspaceofthechurchisstarted.Thefoundationstoneislaidin1993,theconstructioniscarriedoutstepbystepandisnearingcompletionnow.

• MazsalacaisasmalltowninthenorthofLatvia,150kilometersfromcapitalcityRīgaand18kilometersfromtheEstonianborder.RiverSalacaisflowingthroughthetowninavalleyandadorningit.Thereareseveralnaturalandhistoricalobjectsnearby,suchasnatureparkofSkaņaiskalns(asandstonecliffthatproducesagoodecho),ValtenberģumanorandLutheranchurchwithahistorythatgoesbackto13-thcentury.Thetownwithits1400inhabitantsisfairlycompact,about1000morepeopleliveinitsvicinity.Asischaracteristicforasmalltowninanareawheremostcommonactivitiesareagricultureandservices,inhabitantsarefairlymobileandgotoworkinnearbycitiessuchasValmieraandRīga.ManyspendtheirfreetimeandvacationsinMazsalaca.Thisisnoticeableinthechurchtoo.Thetownisvisitedbymanytourists,someofwhomarealsoledtoseethechurchbytheroadsigns.TheothernearestBaptistchurchesareabout50kilometersaway–inValmiera,Limbaži,AinažiandKilingi-NõmmeinEstonia.

• MazsalacaBaptistChurchhasneverbeenabigchurch,withits40-50membersitcansustainitselffinanciallybutlacksmeansfordevelopment.AsitsmaingoalsithasdeclaredgivingglorytoGod,studyofBibleteachings,testimony,fellowshipandserviceforthegloryofGodandblessingstoonesneighbors.Severalmembersofthecongregationhavegonetoworkabroad–inUnitedKingdom,Ireland.SomehavefoundemploymentinRīga,andthedistancecausesestrangementfromthechurch.Somewholiveinnearbysmallcentersofpopulation(Staicele,Naukšēni)finditdifficulttobepresentatchurchserviceseachSunday.Ourvisiontolessentheeffectofdistanceontheabilityoftheseseveralmembersofthechurchtoparticipateinthecollaborationwiththechurchistoestablishanon-linepresenceusingvideobroadcastsandrecordingsontheInternet.Bytryingtorecordsomeeventswehaveconcludedthatagoodsoundqualityrequiressuitableaudioequipment.Thechurchhasseveralskilledpeoplewhocanensuretheuseoftheequipmentinchurchservicesanditsmaintenance.

• Project description – project consists of procurement and setup of video capture and data processingequipment.Videowouldbecapturedwithacamcorder,convertedtoa formatusablebyacomputerwiththehelpofa converterdeviceand streamed toYoutubeusing4Gmobiledata service,which isnecessarybecauseonlyADSLwithslowuploadspeed isofferedby local Internetserviceprovider.OpenBroadcasterSoftwarecouldbeusedforencodingandstreamingvideo.

• Projectgoal–tosetupasystemforbroadcastingvisualsandsoundofchurchservicesandothereventsoverInternet,bothinlivestreamingmodeandasrecordings.Targetaudienceoftheprojectconsistsofmembersofchurchwholiveabroadorcannotattendchurchservicesinpersonforvariousreasons,suchasillnessorabusinesstrip.

Collaboration

• Personresponsiblefortheprojectisthechairmanofthecouncil,AivisMartinsons.Aivisisinthechurchsincechildhood,for40years;severalgenerationsofMartinsonsfamilyhavebeenmembersoftheMazsalaca

BaptistChurch.Heisamemberofthechurchcouncilsince1992,chairmanofthecouncilsince2014,haspartiallyoverseentheconstructionofthenewannexofthechurchbuilding,inadditiontothatisalsoanorganistandleaderofthechurchchoir.Hisphoneis+37129122850,emailaddressaivismartinsons@inbox.lv.

• Participationofthecongregationintheproject–duetoitsspecifics,membersofchurchingeneralcannotbeinvolvedintheprojectdirectly.Thecontributionofthechurchwouldbecontinuoususeandmaintenanceoftheequipmenttobringblessingstoitsmembersandotherinterestedpersons.Thereareseveralpeopleinthe church with relevant skills, including some who have studied computer science and whose work isrelatedtocomputerprogrammingorservicing.

• Involvementofthecongregation:o wewouldprovidetransportforthecollaborationteamfromRīgatoMazsalaca;o accommodationswithconveniencesinthechurchguestrooms,includingfood;o atourofcapitalcityRīga,inordernottohavetopayforhotelinRīgathiscouldbestartedfrom

Mazsalaca;o excursionsinMazsalacaanditssurroundings;o acelebrationofcompletionoftheprojectbythecongregationandcollaborationteamtogether.
