timber frame extension to an

existing home incorporates

ground source heat pump and

heat recovery systems to

reduce energy consumption by

a predicted 63%.

The accommodation is

dementia with additional day

The 29 bed care home was

extensively extended and

refurbished to provide 64

bedrooms all with en suite

shower rooms. Carried out in

two phases to enable the home

to continue to operate, both

south and north extensions

were replaced with larger

extensions with the original

Victorian building being totally

repaired and refurbished.

dementia care unit. Local resistance to the

development demanded

enhanced public consultation,

consent for a 57 bed specialist

(dementia) nursing home on

the site of a previous hotel.

Working with the planners and

local neighbours, we were able

to prove that tourism facilities

would not be affected and

helped to provide a design and

parking facilities which would

“fit to the local street scene”.
