Graduate Profile Graduates of Sheridan’s Project Management Graduate Certificate program will have:

• Demonstrated ability to manage projects from inception to completion, ranging from basic work packages to

increasingly complex projects, on behalf of stakeholders in various sectors of the economy (i.e. cultural, not- for-profit, public sector, hospitality, IT and business organizations).

• Applied accepted organizational management practices, while working independently and collaboratively, to achieve the project and organizational goals on time, on budget, and to the full satisfaction of the stakeholders in terms of scope and quality.

• Applied skills in project and organizational management to their previous background in the Arts, Community Service, Government, IT and Business.

• Enhanced computer skills as a result of working in a mobile laptop environment.

• Further developed their team and leadership skills, in conjunction with creativity and change management.

• Assisted client organizations to manage a project of some importance to them. This allows students to apply the knowledge and skills obtained from the program to real world situations.

Upon graduation students may choose to pursue a professional credential (CAPM® or PMP®) from the

Project Management Institute.

WORK TERM CAPABILITIES

Project Management Skills Graduate

Develop project goals, deliverables, assumptions, constraints, risks, performance criteria, control needs and resource requirements in consultation with project stakeholders.

Manage the scope, cost, timing and quality of a project, at all times focused on project success as defined by project stakeholders.

Develop project charter, scope statement, work breakdown structure, detailed activity descriptions, Gantt chart, quality/risk/people/contract management plans, pro-forma budgets and other documents.

Analyze schedule, cost, quality, risk, people, audit and other aspects of project performance and management and decision support.

Utilize MSProject and other technology tools for communication, collaboration, information management and decision support.

Organizational Management Skills

Evaluate ongoing project justification and alignment to strategic plans.

Interpret basic financial statements

Evaluate external resources with respect to total costs and risks and develop strategies to effectively manage the supply chain.

Leadership, Innovation and Change Skills

Adapt project plans, project management approach and leadership practices to better facilitate organizational change in an appropriate manner.

Identify major aspects of organizational culture hindering/helping change initiatives and develop suitable change management strategies.

Use creative and quantitative tools, techniques, processes and problem solving to identify unique ideas, opportunities and solutions.

Industry Specific Skills

Evaluate the role of stakeholders in public sector, cultural and other non-profit enterprises developing plans enabling project success in these environments.

Complete various types of funding requests, developing appropriate performance management systems meeting financial and non-financial stakeholder needs.

Adapt project management plans to suit not-for-profit environments.

Generate collaborative multi-organizational project management plans to enable project success.

Develop project and stakeholder management plans enabling project success in business enterprises.
