How Can AWARENESS Affect the Health of Society?
By the year 2025, 1 out of 2 men and 1 out of 3 women will have cancer.
A collaboration between health organizations and students of 2 schools; HTHI from San Diego,
United States, and D.F. Mexico.
A meaningful and useful, informative production in two languages: English and Spanish.
I. Project Overview The Center for Disease Control will charge high
school students with a health issue affecting the
general community. Students acting as
consultants will team up with peers from
Mexico and produce a set of recommendations
in both languages English and Spanish.
Participants will be the 11th
-grade students
from Spanish Class.
Learning Goals
o Become aware of major health issues
affecting humanity
o Identify practical and helpful healthy habits
for youth and adults
o Identify inequities in informational
resources for Spanish speakers
o Develop understanding of other culture
o Develop empathy for patients
o Learn basic health Spanish/English terms
o Conversational Spanish within the context
of health
Deliverables
Students will present to the CDC their
recommendations in different formats.
o Informational health tools to be used by
adults and youth.
o These tools will help users to keep track of
their health and provide lists of existing
resources in both English and Spanish
o Products may include:
• Wellness Journal
• Wellness Insert for the Student
Handbook
• Water Bottle informational decal
• Health App
• PSA
Process
The two schools will launch the problem
simultaneously, collaborate and will maintain
communication on a regular basis via Google
hangouts. Below is the high-level process that
will be followed.

Students from both schools will talk to experts
and living resources during the development of
the project. Continuous conversations will take
place with the members of the CDC.

II. Products and Prototype
The following would be products and corresponding prototypes.
1. Bilingual Wellness Journal
2. Wellness insert in the HTHI student Handbook
3. Wellness Information in the Water bottle
4. Identify free Apps in English & Spanish
5. PSA – Public Service Announcement

1. Bilingual Wellness Journal
The journal will be created for the use of the parents.
It will allow users to log basic health information such as:
• Vaccination Chart broken by age group
• Log notes when going to the doctor
• Resources such as clinics, pharmacies, etc.
• Recipes

2. Wellness insert in the HTHI student Handbook
This insert will provide students with health information, here are some examples:
• How to read labels
• Food facts
• Exercise facts
• Apps
• Links to Websites
• Others
3. Wellness/Health Information in Water bottle
Water bottles will have decals with health information
such as:
• Properties of water and reasons why it is important to
drink water daily
• How to read nutritional labels
• Sites for health resources
• Others

4. Identify Existing app in English and Spanish
Students will identify existing health-related apps in Spanish and English.
They will learn how to use it and prepare a brief summary in English and Spanish.
5. PSA – Public Service Announcement or Infographics or Campaign
A short bilingual PSA’s or infographics might be created with Health related information. These
informational pieces may be presented to medical centers, clinics and doctors’ offices.
