WHAT IS A PROJECT PROPOSAL It is much like a business plan

Usually prepared for people who are not familiar with either your organisation or your project

The proposal plan gives the reader all the information needed about you and the activity you have in mind.

WHAT IS A PROJECT PROPOSAL In the same way a bank needs to see a business

plan before issuing you a loan, a funder needs to see a project proposal.

Development agencies are not only interested in the management and financial parts of your business or project, they have strong interest in the development aims.

WHAT IS PROJECT PROPOSAL

A proposal for funding a project; Usually contained a well co-ordinated plan of activities designed to provide measurable solutions to a specific problem, in order to accomplish social and economic benefits for a target market or beneficiary.

Fundamentally requires the proposer to think about what the funder’s needs are – what is in it for the funder.

THE FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES OF A SUCCESSFUL PROJECT PROPOSAL To get a project off the ground, money is only

part of the challenge.

WHAT IS IN IT FOR FUNDERS – NEED

STATEMENT Funders have strategic plans they must meet and they need proposals with strategic fit.

Proposal should be checked for alignment and must communicate:

-Why a project deserves to exist?

What is the problem you are trying to solve?

What is the issue you wish to address?

What groups of people are affected – profile, number, age, gender (this is your target beneficiaries/ market)?

Is the problem currently being addressed?

WHAT IS IN IT FOR FUNDERS – NEED

STATEMENT - How is the problem currently being addressed and by

whom?

What are the present strengths and weaknesses of those addressing the problem?

How much will it cost to deliver the project?

Who will be involved in the delivery?

How will the project be managed?

When do you expect to achieve the key milestones?

WHAT IS IN IT FOR FUNDERS – NEED

STATEMENT So there are two areas in which your proposal must

convince funders that you deserve its support:

You will contribute to development in a target community

You are capable of managing the resources to meet your dream

PLANNING YOUR PROJECT PROPOSAL WRITING

A . About Your Organisation- Example

ABC Charity is an international organization working with people who have disability including persons who are blind, deaf, mobility impaired, as well as parents’ groups. It was created to help people with disabilities help them-selves. Activities include leadership training, public education, and income generation. Every year we organize international events during the disability week to highlight the need for a change in public services that are not disable friendly. We are renowned for our radio interviews, training workshops and talent shows. This year we hope to make our events even bigger with an international training seminar for people with disabilities.

PLANNING YOUR PROJECT PROPOSAL WRITING

B . Who are the partners working with you?

Demonstrate you have other organisations involved in the project

State who they are and describe their involvement

If you have been involving government bodies or other businesses, even if only for funding, this support adds strength to your proposal.

The involvement of other organizations in your project shows that you have support from your community and can access skills you might not have within your organisation.

C . Who are the beneficiaries?

The beneficiaries are the people on whose behalf the project is being organized.

The beneficiaries include the participants who will benefit directly from their involvement in the project.

There will be indirect beneficiaries, who may not be active in the project but whose lives will be affected nonetheless.
