Context:

We are doing this assignment to discussthe problem that student do not knowenough about manufacturing. We use the

following steps we have learned todefined the problem :

1. Information gathering.

2. Problem definition.3. Evaluation of problems.

The work:

1.Information Gathering:

In this case we used four steps :

Collect and analyzed information and data.

Talk with people familiar with the problem.

View the problem first hand Confirming all finding.

Collect and analyzed information and

data:In this step we prepared a questionnaire.

This questionnaire have been given to:

1.Last year high school students(65 student).

2.Orientation year student in the engineering

college (27 student). It was as shown below:

Asking people who are familiar with theproblem :

We have asked Dr. Ibrahim Alawe why donot many student have knowledge aboutmanufacturing?

He answered, this problem is coming fromtwo reasons

Explor ing the problem

Now we are facing the problem which is:

"student does not know enough aboutmanufacturing" and we are trying to explore thisproblem by using "Exploring the problem"

method to define that problem:

Identify available information     Learn fundamentals     Missing information

Hypotheses     More information     Define the real problem

Page 19: Project Sec04 T3 Spring 2006

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/project-sec04-t3-spring-2006 19/107

Identify available information

From the information that we could obtain from the filedwe can summarize this few points:

± The high school students are not care abut industrialtechnologies more than the fun because the nature of theyouths.

± K.S.A is a young industrial region, so the community has to bemore educated with time. ± some manufacturing companies considers the work as a secret

so no body can know abut it even in general promotional wayslike TV or internet.

± Student all most sees the product or the device as a complex

thing, so he not even thinks abut it or how it works. ± The education authority does not support the subjects in school

by enough information abut manufacturing topics.

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/project-sec04-t3-spring-2006 20/107

Missing information:

I think there is missing part in this analysisthat the effect of the surroundings of thestudent environment and the amount or level of education of the family, because itcan effect on education side of the studentand his trend.

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/project-sec04-t3-spring-2006 21/107

More information:

Upon the information that we weregathering , it was discovered that there isa kind of attraction in some layers of students to the manufacturing technologyto improve there poor knowledge.

:Discussion

By using problem definition for thisassignment we were being able tounderstand and define the real problem

(Students do not know enough about

manufacturing) where we used the threesteps : information gathering , problemdefinition and evaluation of problems. Once

we have defined the problem we can tomove forward toward the best solution byusing the idea generation technique.

Introduction:

This is the time to investigate a veryimportant part of L3 assignment. We willdiscuss the detail of the (L3-b) part byseveral categories such as IdeaGeneration, Multi-Voting, The Musts andwants.

:Idea Generation

We began by brainstorming to initiate theideas alternatives of the artifactsindividually where classify that alternatives(artifacts) according to members, we canget the information as follows:

Page 28: Project Sec04 T3 Spring 2006

NO. of artifacts: 15 + 14 + 14 + 16 + 18 = 77

By using Boggle Method ( the repeated artifacts=17)so; (77-17= 60 artifacts)

NO. of votes after Boggle method: (60/3 = 20 votes)

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/project-sec04-t3-spring-2006 30/107

The Final Artifacts :

After applying Multi-Voting as showing in the tableabove, we got the final Artifacts as follows:

1. Ladder ( 6 votes)2. Heater (6 votes)

3. Scoter (5 votes)4. Computer (5 votes)5. Telephone (5 votes)6. fan (5 votes)7. Curtain (4 votes )8. Blade (4 votes )

:(Musts)TheThis is the (Musts) that was deducing after the brain stormingfrom all teammates and use the Boggle Method to delete therepeated Musts:

1-The artifact must dissect into at least 10 pieces2-Not a weapon3-The artifact price must be less than 80 SR4-Instructor must approve it

5-Easy to assemble and disassemble6-we must be able to obtain the artifact that the team selects7-It must not have a dangerous material8-should not be pollutant for environment9-The product not have a sensitive parts

10-Not have a poisonous material11-use at home12-It must have a light weight13-The tools that will use for assembling must be cheap andsmall

Osborn¶s Checklist (Musts)

The Osborn¶s checklist techniques are used to generateadditional alternatives that are related to thosepreviously obtained where it is useful to help us build onone other's ideas as follows:

.the major parts not have a brittle glass........Adapt ?

.SR600 The artifact Price must be less than«.Modify ?The product not have a sensitive parts««Magnify ?

We can be expand as (No have electronic lamellar) andalso (No have complex electrical major parts).

(should not be pollutant for environment)..«Combine ?and (Not have a poisonous material)

We can combine them as ( safe in use ).

Voting ( Musts ):-MultiWe are going to use Multi-Voting to reduce the Musts asfollows: NO. of Musts =20NO. of votes after Boggle method:(20/3=6 votes)

The Final (Musts) : After applying Multi-Voting as showing in the table above, wegot the final Musts as follows :

The artifact must dissect into at least 10 pieces (5 votes)Not a weapon (5 votes)It must have a light weight (5 votes)The artifact price must be less than 600 SR (4 votes)Easy to assemble and disassemble (4 votes)The tools that will use for assembling must be cheap andsmall. ( 3 votes)

) :The (WantsWe states below some wants that we are selected for modifyingthe artifact. And we will reduce them by voting after increasingthem by random simulation technique. This is the (Wants) that have been deduced after the brainstorming from all teammates and use the Boggle Method todelete the repeated Wants:

1-Easy to maintain for faults2-Easy replacing for parts3-medium level of technology4-Available in market5-Non Electric equipment6-High level of reliability

7-Easy to use8-long life use9-Easy to handle10-Not have material that will affect the skin11-Low cost

12-company warranty

):W antsRandom Stimulation (

As we said in the beginning we increase the list of wants using Random stimulation technique to bereached 20 points at least. We are going to use this method which the random

word can be used to generate other words that canstimulate the flow of ideas as follows:Size wide Small parts of product.book read Guide line to use product.

Voting ( Wants ) :-MultiWe are going to use Multi-Voting to reduce the wants to 4

Wants as follows: NO. of Wants = 20

NO. of votes after Boggle method : ( 20/3 = 6 votes )

The Final (Wants) : After applying Multi-Voting as showing in the table above, wegot the final Wants as follows :

Available in market (6 votes )Small parts of product (6 votes )

Easy replacing for parts ( 5 votes )Easy to handle ( 4 votes )

Conclusion:

Now we have achieved the main aim of assignmentof (L3-b) which represented by generation of ideasand find out several alternatives (artifacts), also wehave determine a lest of (musts) and (wants). As we did before that we have used a techniques to

manage them, we used brainstorming, multi voting,Osborn's checklist and random simulationrespectively. After the reduction of artifacts and wants using the

multi voting technique we drowse The boundary of the musts and wants and make them limited andmodified.

Introduction:

We are doing this assignment L3-C by usingthese techniques:

KT

DA table  Adverse consequences table

Detailed cost for implementation process

to decide which project we will chose.

Page 40: Project Sec04 T3 Spring 2006

The wor k:

KTDA table:

First of all, we should show the artifact,

musts and wants with votes. Note that"artifacts" and "Musts" and "Wants" will betaken from the previous assignment (L3-b)that have been done before.

Next is the K.T. Decision Analysis Tables

as shown below, where it will show theartifact that fit with our constrains (Musts)and desires (Wants). (note: the artifact thatgets the highest score will be chosen)

Page 44: Project Sec04 T3 Spring 2006

Now the following table shows thefinal score for each artifact (note:

from KTDA table)

Adver se consequences table

Adverse consequences table is a usefultechnique to choose the best choice out of alternatives, where the difficulties that mayappear when chose any one are taking inaccount. In the adverse consequencestable, the artifact that gets the lowest

score will be chosen

Page 51: Project Sec04 T3 Spring 2006

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/project-sec04-t3-spring-2006 52/107

After doing the adverse consequences tableit is easily to notice that the table gives thebenefit to choose the "Sccoter "

Page 53: Project Sec04 T3 Spring 2006

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/project-sec04-t3-spring-2006 53/107

Detailed cost for implementation

process The price of any product is one of the most

important issues for the manufacturer and

the costumer too. The price plays a mainpart in marketing the product and in thedesire of taking it by the costumer.

Page 54: Project Sec04 T3 Spring 2006

8/3/2019 Project Sec04 T3 Spring 2006

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/project-sec04-t3-spring-2006 54/107

So after searching about implementationprocess cost for the two top artifacts whichis coming from "KTDA table" and " ACT" we will estimate the following table.

Page 55: Project Sec04 T3 Spring 2006

Note: cost of time refer s to the cost of thetotal hour s the team member s wor kingon the project. Each member will take(15RS /h) and the total wor king hour s are:

1. Sccoter (2h)

2. computer (3h)

Selecting the artifact

After the K.T. Decision Analysis table, the³Adverse Consequences table´ and thecost estimation a discussion take placebetween the team members to analyze theresults so the right decision will be taken. The final decision was selecting the

³sccoter " that is shown below.

Discussion :

This is the end of this assignment (L-3C), and itwas a good practice to use these techniques tochoose our artifact.

Finally, the chosen artifact was the "Sccoter " andnow everything ready for the next step of themain project, which is the implementationprocess that will be discussed in the next

assignment (L3-D)

INTRODUCTION:

Now it¶s the time to make assembly planand evaluation for the entire artifact(scotter).

We make a (BOM) and K.T.PPA table. Also we make assembly plan. Finally wemake environmental impact evaluation.

Bill of Mater ials (BOM)

A BOM is a table that lists each distinctpart and for each part includes thefollowing: the part name, a part number,

a photo of parts, the number of such partsin the artifact, and what the part is madeout of.

Environmental impact statement:

Environmental impact statement or EIS is a documentdescribing the impacts or the reflection of aproposed action on the environment . also ,itdescribes ways to lessen or remove negative

impacts where each a proposed action (artifact )have a positive or negative impact or both .

Our artifact (scooter ) as any artifact have a positiveor negative impact ,

we will discuss these points carefully until weattempting to reach a decision about whether theproject should proceed.

Collecting data

Page 94: Project Sec04 T3 Spring 2006

8/3/2019 Project Sec04 T3 Spring 2006

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/project-sec04-t3-spring-2006 94/107

Collecting dataTo Investigate the possible impact of the proposed

Project ,T

he First step:

we asked an expert aboutthe materials of parts of scooter. Then , wesurveyed number of people whether a parent and abig brother for the children who are using a scooter

or the children themselves. After we asked themand collected the data ,we asked an expert to gather some advices to mitigate the negative side of impact.

Our questions focused on some points which will showthe positive and negative impacts as a result of using our artifact (scooter) where we improve it froma hand use to an electrical use :

There is a battery may be thrown , It is considered as

Page 95: Project Sec04 T3 Spring 2006

8/3/2019 Project Sec04 T3 Spring 2006

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/project-sec04-t3-spring-2006 95/107

a refuse will hurt the environment where there arematerials that incapable decomposition . Also

,there is an external charger consist of materialsthat incapable decomposition .Why did you buy a scooter ? What is the impactwhether positive or negative which you observed it?

It is consider as a gift or urge encourage children to agood work such as success in his study. Also , theelectrical use for scooter is more enjoyment and funfor children . But there is the negative side , such

as children maybe use scooter away from his family(example : they play in street ), this is may because to happen an accident . Also , during thebattery is charging maybe happen an electric shockfor children.

Page 96: Project Sec04 T3 Spring 2006

8/3/2019 Project Sec04 T3 Spring 2006

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/project-sec04-t3-spring-2006 96/107

: Healthy Side

There isn't fear if the family observe children .Without attention maybe children go toward thestreet ,this is may be cause to an accident . Also

, electrical wire maybe happen an electric shockor the mechanical parts maybe hurt their hands.

To avoid these problems , the adults whether aparent or brother must charge the battery

themselves . Also , they must observe childrenor children play at safe place.

Page 97: Project Sec04 T3 Spring 2006

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/project-sec04-t3-spring-2006 97/107

Economically :

A lot of money can be gathered from it becausechildren like and enjoy scooter.

Also , cost of scooter isn't expensive . The

negative side is electrical charging of battery butthe battery have 6 voltages so the charger don'tuse up more electric current . Otherwise ,scooter is a good way to shopping with more

comfortable where children will use scooter during any shopping .

Page 98: Project Sec04 T3 Spring 2006

8/3/2019 Project Sec04 T3 Spring 2006

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/project-sec04-t3-spring-2006 98/107

Noise pollution :

There isn't a great impact in this side , butthere is a low sound from motor of scooter may be don't take into consideration .

Page 99: Project Sec04 T3 Spring 2006

8/3/2019 Project Sec04 T3 Spring 2006

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/project-sec04-t3-spring-2006 99/107

Analysis of the collected data :

Based on the data that been collected above, there are a positive impact more than anegative impact . Also ,we can avoid the

negative impact easily as mentionedpreviously.

Thus, it is conclude from this evaluation that

is possible to proceed in the project .

Cultural and Social Impacts :

The cultural and social impacts areimportant factors that we must take inconsideration in the evaluation of our

artifact (scooter) . we will discuss theseimpacts as follows :

The Cultural Impacts

Page 101: Project Sec04 T3 Spring 2006

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/project-sec04-t3-spring-2006 101/107

The Cultural Impacts

the positive side:

1) learning children some of basics of drive2) encouragement a competition andprecession between children especially

the kinship.3) Buying scooter when child succeed in hisstudy or end reading any book where it isconsider as a incentive factor to more

learning .4) More familiar with other children wherechildren play and learn with each other .

Page 102: Project Sec04 T3 Spring 2006

:the negative sideChild maybe take more time when heplay by scooter. this is cause to a badlevel in school if he study . Also , he

prevent himself attendance into usefulprograms for children .

Page 103: Project Sec04 T3 Spring 2006

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/project-sec04-t3-spring-2006 103/107

Social Impact:

Scooter improved social relations betweenfamily. We will discuss this impact asfollows :

Community Cohesion:

More familiar between family when child'sfather or brother give him scooter as a giftbecause children enjoy scooter and like it. Also , more familiar betweenneighborhood's children and their kinshiptoo.

Mobility (movement)

It is small and light , you can carry it anywhere

Safetyscooter is not a very safe device without attentionfor child when he play at general parks , maybe

children go toward the street ,this is may because to an accident . Also , electrical wiremaybe happen an electric shock or themechanical parts maybe hurt their hands .But

with more attention all of these dangers willremove easily.

Finally, we see the reflection of our artifact on our community:

How will this project influence communities ?from the previous evaluation ,as we have seenscooter improved social relations between family, child's neighborhood and their kinship

.Subsequently increasing the influence of our community. Will the project act as a tool for socialization byany mean?

Of course, it increases the level of socializationespecially children will be men in future.
