We are looking forward to visiting Bangladeshagain, it will be our fifth Project Shapla trip tothe country with the Conservative Friends ofBangladesh (CFoB) since the group’s formation in 2006.
CFoB was established to build new relationships with Bangladeshis, both in theUnited Kingdom and in Bangladesh, and westrive to further ties between the two countries for our mutual interest.
uring our trip, we will be visiting incredibly important projects of BRAC, Oxfam and London Tigers which are improving the livesof the people living in Dhaka and Sylhet.
We plan to visit health, education and sport-ing projects during the week. We will also paya visit to the LEEDO peace home which hasgiven a home to over 2,000 street children inDhaka over the last four years.
Some of the children from that home came tovisit us in Parliament in May of this year so itwill be great to see them again.
We also plan on helping with a local riverclean-up project in Sylhet.
The visit will end with a Global Britain thememeeting senior members of the BangladeshGovernment and Business Leaders.
We would like to take this opportunity tothank our generous sponsors for their support, their help has been vital and hasmade this trip possible. We would also like tothank the Bangladesh High Commissioner in London and the Bangladesh Prime Minister’soffice and Foreign Ministry for their help in organising this trip.
We are certain it will be one of our best visits yet!

Our aim is to promote the culture, successes and values of British Bangladeshis and advocate closer
relations between the Conservative Party, the British Bangladeshi community and Bangladesh.
Welcome
4
the rt hon Boris johnson MPPrime Minister and Leader of the Conservative Party
I am delighted to send my best wishes to everyone supporting Project Shaplathis year, along with my thanks to Conservative Friends of Bangladesh for organising this fantastic initiative.
CFoB do a great job in linking Conservative parliamentarians, candidates and activists with Bangladesh. In doing so you are helping to strengthen the enduring relationship between the UK and Bangladesh – a relationship that is rooted in our historic ties, shared values and common goals.
As Prime Minister, I want the UK to renew our friendships with our allies aroundthe world. Bangladesh is an important trading partner and I hope we can buildan even stronger relationship following our departure from the EU.
The CFoB volunteers taking part in Project Shapla are exemplifying the outward-looking spirit that has always been a hallmark of our country. Thatspirit was seen in the generosity of the British public’s response to the humanitarian crisis facing the Rohingya community, and I am proud of the extensive work that the UK Government has done to deliver vital assistance to refugees in Bangladesh, including the considerable amount of aid we have provided.
Thank you again to CFoB – and best wishes to everyone involved in this excellent project.

In this turmoil of Brexit impasse Project Shapla is trying to sought the tranquillity and equilibrium in asmall way by balancing the continuity of helping theneedy through this worthwhile project. Project Shalpahas come a long way from year 2011 till to date withthe help of the Parliamentarians, the donors and theCFOB official to carry on with this standalone socialproject from our International Development Initiative - for eradication of extreme poverty, tackling the global challenges of modern times and leaving a lasting legacy.
Our mission is complementary to those of the International Development initiative limited toBangladesh and focused to improve the subjects’ quality of life through education, awareness, healthand hygiene, sports and activities. We are grateful tothe Parliamentarians specifically to our President AnneMain who has relentlessly persuaded this social
initiative. It will not be out of context to acknowledgethat British Parliamentarian, especially the Member ofParliament who visited Cox’s Bazar played a huge rolein drawing the attention of the world to the cataclysmthat befall the Rohingans of Burma.
This journey to Bangladesh will encompass our com-mitment that we will stand by and continue eventhough we have so much uncertainty and political upheaval at home.
Wishing CFOB, the chairman Mehfuz Ahmed and vicechairman Abdus Hamid and officials for their hardwork to continue their effort in implementing the continuity of this initiative.
rt. hon james cleverly MPConservative Party Chairman
I am delighted that the Conservative Friends ofBangladesh are undertaking their 5th Social Action projectin Bangladesh.
In 2017 I was proud to see Project Shapla as the first visitof British Parliamentarians to the Rohingya refugee camps- they moved the dial in bringing more support. That thoseMPs were Conservative was testament to the compassionthat is at the heart of our Party, but also the passion ofConservative Friends of Bangladesh to do good - notablythe donors behind the trip and the group’s ChairmanMehfuz Ahmed - who has shown fine dedication.
I give all my best wishes that Project Shapla will be a greatexample of how a Party link group can also contribute toconversations on aid and trade. Whilst you are visiting agreat trading partner of the UK and one of the fastestgrowing economies in the world, you are also visiting aplace of great people in great need.
For the last 13 years, Conservative Friends of Bangladeshhave set a fine of example reflecting the values of the Conservative Party and the British Bangladeshi diaspora. As such it is an honour that your group is serving the Partyand both the UK and Bangladesh with Project Shapla.
rt hon Nicky Morgan MPI want to wish everyone taking partin the 2019 Project Shapla the verybest of luck. I believe you will have afabulous time completing importantsocial action projects which make areal positive difference to the communities involved, and also seeing the wonderful country ofBangladesh.
The links between the UK andBangladesh run deep and are enhanced by the dedicated work
of the Conservative Friends ofBangladesh team.
I loved taking part in Project Maja in2011 and I look forward to hearingabout your experiences.

2015Project ShaPla
Getting involved in Project Shapla, the philanthropic and charitable window ofthe CFoB, has proved a real eye-opener for me. It was perhaps the first time Ihave experienced first-hand the plight of the underprivileged children andelderly people of Bangladesh who have fallen through the social safety net.

“In 2017 CFoB undertook its 4th visit to Bangladesh
accompanied by a group of MP’s and Conservative Party
volunteers.
We continued our commitment to Bangladesh to build on
relations
between Conservative Party and Bangladesh through social
action philanthropy.
We have long established partnership with London Tigers and
BRAC and last year we were able to revisit Health, Education
and Sports projects in Sylhet and Dhaka.”

“In 2017 CFOB volunteers visited the Rohingya crisis at the
refugee camps. The Bangladesh Government facilitated the
two-day visit. Volunteers and MP’s Anne Main, Paul Scully,
Will Quince and Amjad Bashir MEP saw the harrowing
situation faced by the Rohingya.
The scale of the crisis experienced, first hand moved us all.”
