Project Title:
Social upliftment We are committed to be socially relevant by being physically involved in uplifting the Ekurhuleni community, schools and Children’s Homes and Quadriplegic Centre that find themselves in the desperate situation of being unable to provide and take care of the huge needs of the children in their care and the growing number of destitute people everyday. Our upliftment programme is aimed at providing a service of food and clothing and specialized equipment to destitute people and schools and homes who are faced with the emotional and physical challenges of being destitute and in dire need of assistance.
SUMMARY Operation Anti-Freeze is an Organization, who works in the entire Ekurhuleni Municipal District. Our upliftment programme includes services of providing food and food parcels and clothing to our Feeding Scheme and specialized equipment to the Schools, Homes and Centers for the mentally and physically disabled who face the emotional and physical challenges of being destitute and in desperate need of help and assistance to help ease their burdens. Operation Anti - Freeze reaches 1200 men and women and 600 children on a monthly basis and wants to increase their feeding and support to:
1. To enable children to reach their full potential by providing psychological, material and social support. 2. To provide food and food parcels that will sustain the Homes and Schools for one month. 3. To provide stationary and study material to children in schools where needed. 4. To increase the provision of school uniforms to the schools so that no child will feel discriminated
against. 5. To increase our reach in terms of beneficiaries – enabling us to help uplift and help more children. 6. To continue providing support and specialized equipment to our current Quadriplegic Center
Impumelelo Home 7. To provide food and food parcels and clothing to the growing number of destitute people in the
Ekurhuleni Municipal District to help to give them hope and dignity. 8. To provide nappies and formula to our Baby House which has 16 abandoned babies between the ages
new born – 18 months
BACK GROUND OF OPERATION ANTI – FREEZE
Operation Anti-Freeze – an Inner City Upliftment Project began in October 2000. We are a Non-Profit Organization, NPO 051 118, that reaches the underprivileged and orphaned and abandoned children in the Ekurhuleni Districts of Benoni, Brakpan, Boksburg, Germiston, Kempton Park, Nigel, Springs, Bedfordview and Edenvale. We are currently feeding and providing support to over 1200 men and women and 600 children a month and giving out food parcels to help sustain them. We have a Feeding Scheme where we provide a warm meal and food parcels to a huge number of destitute people to help ease their burden. We are also running School projects where day students receive a cooked breakfast and lunch on a daily basis. For some of those children the meal they get at school is the only meal they will have for the day and a hungry child cannot concentrate or study and is thus unable to reach his or her full potential. Included in our parcels to the schools are hygiene products such as toothpaste, soap, vaseline and deodorants. Not only are we providing for the immediate hunger needs but we also allowing children to develop self esteem in teaching them to take care of their physical bodies. Operation Anti-Freeze has an added service to the feeding scheme. In the cold winter months the focus is on providing not only food but also warm clothing and Winter School uniforms and blankets to adults and children in need. To meet the huge demand we need donations of food and clothing and blankets from the public and the Corporate Sector/or monetary donations to purchase the food, clothing and school uniforms and blankets. Our vision is to provide school uniforms to a whole school instead of providing to only one classroom, and to increase our feeding to expand our provisions and support to more Schools and Children’s Homes and Orphanages. We would like to build warehouses to accommodate the food and clothing that we collect to ensure effective management and distribution of these items. The warehouse project is also aimed at providing opportunity for skills development as this would enhance the employability prospects and create opportunities for self employment to the very children that we are now sponsoring. We are currently busy in providing support to :
1. Our Feeding Scheme - (1,500 men, women and children)food and parcels-clothes and blankets 2. Schools - (650 children)parcels and spreads which assist the schools in providing the children with
sandwiches or a light meal- clothes and blankets 3. Orphanages - (250 children)parcels and spreads- clothes and blankets 4. Old Age Homes - (100 elderly)parcels- clothes and blankets 5. Homes for the Mentally and Physically Challenged - (300 children)food and spreads- clothes and
blankets 6. Disaster Relief- when the need arises 7. Safe House for abandoned babies – 16 babies – new born – 18 months
