A Letter From Mayor Dave Wood (continued) excited to work with them all in this new role. Together, we will continue to deliver the very best City services that our residents have enjoyed and relied on for decades. I have served the citizens of Mishawaka for the past 12 years as the 2nd District Councilman. As councilman, I had a chance to work closely with Mayor Beutter and Mayor Rea. Mishawaka has been blessed with great leadership and vi-sion. That vision for Mishawaka includes the great work of Mayor Bob and Mayor Jeff and I plan to continue our City’s strong economic growth, sound fiscal responsibility, efficient city services and to promote clean and safe neighborhoods. Both Mayors have served the citizens well and both have left the City far better off than they found her. Both have made a tremendous impact on my life and I can’t thank them enough. My passion for this city runs through my heart much like the mighty St. Joe that cuts through the heart of our city. My only motivation is to improve and pass down to my kids and future generations what has been given to us. My wife Jaimi and I have 4 children, 2 girls and 2 boys. Jaimi and I both grew up here in Mishawaka and are proud to raise our children here. I have five generations of family that have called Mishawaka home. I have deep roots here and a strong commitment to my hometown. To me, this is quite simply the honor of my lifetime to serve you as Mayor and I look forward to meet-ing you. If you have questions or want to talk to me feel free to call my office anytime.

Main Street Improvements—South Section This project is being constructed in phases to coordinate the relocation of utilities, installation of storm sewers, to maintain two way traffic on North Main Street and to estab-lish a logical stopping point for this construction season. The following is work that will be completed by early Octo-ber: 1. 36” trunk storm sewer installed in Grove Street, which has been reconstructed with new curbs, sidewalks, and asphalt pavement. 2. Trunk storm sewer crossings of Main Street have been completed, with extensive utility relocation to allow installa-tion of storm sewer along the west side to Lawrence Street. 3. Concrete pavement installed on the west side of the intersection of Main Street and Mishawaka Avenue. 4. Manhole for CSO 19 installed on the east side of Main Street south of Mishawaka Avenue 5. Watermain installation north of Mishawaka Avenue to Lawrence Street and preparation of subgrade for concrete pavement. The current schedule is to complete the construction of the southbound lanes by November and open Main Street to traffic over the winter and complete the northbound lane work in 2011. Holy Cross Parkway Forcemain Construction has begun on the Christyann Street phase, which is the final section of a 24” forcemain that extends from a new lift station in the vicinity of the Saint Joseph Regional Hospital to a new river crossing at Sarah Street. This Christ-yann Street section is 3,900 feet in length, begins at the intersection of Russ and Chestnut, then west on Russ Street, south on Christyann Street to an earlier phase installed under the Canadian National Railroad. This forcemain project is designed to be installed by drilling in approximately 800-900 foot lengths, which reduces excavation. By early October most of the forcemain will be installed between the railroad and Russ Street which will allow the restoration in that sec-tion to begin. In addition to resurfacing of Christyann Street, and installation of curb and sidewalk north of Russ Street to McKinley, the project included installation of handicap ramps at all intersections within the project limits. Work is scheduled to be completed by the end of November which will permit the lift station to be operational by early 2011.
