Local Partner: Howrah South Point (HSP) is a

100% Indian NGO offering hospitality, care and

special education for disable children, orphans or

children too poor to get access to education.

Based in West Bengal, the NGO has 8 homes: 4 in

the district of Jalpaiguri, and 4 in Howrah,

Kolkata suburbs. Bakshara is one of these homes.

About 150 children are hosted there. It includes,

among other facilities, a school open to resident

children and also to surrounding neighborhood

children. Thus, 530 primary and secondary

students have access to a healthy education and The team who made and set up the solar system

social framework to grow up.

Our solar workshop is set up in Mogradangi, one of the several homes developed by HSP.

ICOD – Community Hall

Presentation

Local partner: ICOD is a care centre and a shelter for children and

people on the margins of society, offering educational support for

local children and a socio-spiritual centre for all religions. It was

founded in 2000 in Uluberia, Kolkata neighborhood, by our dear

brother Gaston Dayananda.

Its main goal is, to spread with as much simplicity as possible, a spirit of interreligious

and societal HARMONY and, especially among those who devote themselves to the

rehabilitation of the poorest and abandoned. This spirit has to be developed through

different religions, castes, classes and ethnic groups in their relationship with the one

whom, in India, is the unique God called with different names.

ICOD primarily offers its services to rehabilitate residents and staffs in an authentic respect, a true compassion, and a

deep love for those who have been abandoned by all.

PROJECT In the development framework of its home, ICOD has

built a large hall (see above picture) in order to provide a space for

work, care, study, prayer and sharing for the residents throughout the

year, but also a ventilated shelter during the hot saeson. ICOD would

like to use the hall roof surface to generate its own electricity needs

through solar . The energy thereby produced

will, at first, supply fans and lighting of the hall.

Project to develop a training course in solar energy

Definition of a common axis of development over 5 years, in two phases:

- Practical training: In a first step, a technical trainer in solar hot water solar systems (HWSS)

manufacturing will go on site to train local trainers and implement a training course with a level close to

what apprenticeship is in Switzerland. The time spent there is evaluated to 2-3 months in order to train

future trainers on the practical aspects of HWSS manufacturing. 4 systems will be carried out under our

supervision in order to make the people in charge fully autonomous.

- Advanced Training: Then, a more qualified trainer, at the theoretical level, will take the relay in order to

train specialized trainers with a good academic-level laid on good theoretical understanding, and a

practical know-how of the field of solar photovoltaic and HWSS as well. The time spent there will be at

least one year to allow for a sustainable implementation of the training course.

The Salesians of Don Bosco spread all

over the world technical trainings by

opening access to all. The technical

training center in Howrah, Kolkata

suburbs, offers a range of varied

training courses from simple 3-month-

long training to advanced engineering

training over several years

Since its creation, our hot water solar systems

workshop has grown following two lines of

development. First, systems manufacturing to

demonstrate our expertise and gain credibility

to solicit new customers. Then, in a global and

sustainable approach, the solar workshop has

been developing along its main axis which is

teaching and training
