Construction of the theatre complex was in completed 1985.The theatre design was based on modernist participles with specific influence by the mid-twentieth century, Brazilian architectural Modernism which had been recognized at the 1943 'Brazil Builds' exhibition.

Interior space flow unrestricted through the irregular foyer spaces with interlocking single and multiple volumes. A combination of various exotic finishes were use on the interior for instance marble, teak cladding and gold plating . The existing red carpet wall cladding will remain unchanged. The complexity of interior space, the deferent finishes and various focal art pieces should influence the colour and design of the new carpet without creating to much distraction, however the carpet should be contemporary and freshen up the interior and still compliment the formal/elegant stature of the theatre.
