Our God is a promise maker and a promise keeper. When God says He will do something, He always follows through.

This 30-day devotional is designed to help you start discov-ering the thousands of promises God makes to His people. Each day, you’ll read one promise from Scripture. Use the questions and journaling space to reflect on how you can take God up on the promises He has for you.

“For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ. And so through him the ‘Amen’ is spoken by usto the glory of God.”

2 CORINTHIANS 1:20

When we’re exhausted, when it feels like we’re never going to get it right, God tells us to come to Him. Our human strength is limited, but God’s power is limitless. When we are operating in our own strength, we will always burn out. But God promises that when we slow down, trust Him, and move at His speed, we will never grow weary.

“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;but those who hope in the Lord

will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles;they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

ISAIAH 40:29-31

Are you tired today? Where do you need God to renew your strength?

Where is your hope? What or who do you look to for security, comfort, or strength?

What step could you take today to begin living like this promise is true?

Fear drives our decisions about all kinds of things — from what to wear, to where to go to school, and which career to pursue. Fear can keep us in relationships longer than we need to be. It can also make us do silly things, like refuse to step on the sidewalk cracks because we don’t want to break our mother’s back.

When we belong to God, fear doesn’t have to control us. Our God is the same God who spoke creation into existence. There’s no need to panic and no need to fear when He’s with us. He promises to help us when we’re scared, to hold us steady, and give us the strength to face the fears in our lives.

“So do not fear, for I am with you;do not be dismayed, for I am your God.

I will strengthen you and help you;I will uphold you with my righteous

right hand.”

ISAIAH 41:10

What are you scared of right now?

What has that fear caused you to do or prevented you from doing?

How do you need God to help you and strengthen you in that situation? Spend a few minutes talking to God in prayer. Tell Him how fear is affecting your life and ask Him for help.

No matter how hard we try, we will always let other people down. We’ll forget a birthday, say the wrong thing, misread a social cue. Even when we want to love each other well, we still fail. But God’s love, it never fails.

God doesn’t change His mind or renege on His covenants. When we asked Jesus into our lives, we became part of God’s family forever. No matter how messy our lives get or how troubled our hearts are, God does not abandon us. He promises to love His people and take compassion on us even when our lives are in chaos.

“‘Though the mountains be shakenand the hills be removed,

yet my unfailing love for youwill not be shaken nor my covenantof peace be removed,’ says the Lord,

who has compassion on you.”

ISAIAH 54:10

REFLECTDo you ever feel unlovable? What makes you feel that way?

When God says His love is unshakable, how does that make you feel? Does it affect how you interact with Him?

Is there any area of your life where you need God’s peace and compassion? Spend some time in prayer and tell God how you feel.

Trust is difficult to give, especially when it comes to money and stuff. Trusting a friend with your car opens you up to financial liability. Trusting your teammate with a project could put your career on the line.

Trust makes us vulnerable, and no one likes to feel vulnerable. God knows this about us, which is why He promises to never forsake us. We trust God with the future because He will always take care of us. We don’t have to worry about if we’ll get the job or if we’ll have enough because God promises to be with us. And He will always be enough.

“Keep your lives freefrom the love of money

and be content with what you have, because God has said,

‘Never will I leave you;never will I forsake you.’”

Think about the last time you wanted something desperately. Maybe it was a car, an office, or the person who eventually became your spouse. We’ve all experienced longing — this sense that if we could just get that one thing our lives would be complete. But they never are, are they?

The only thing that will truly delight us, now and forever, is the Lord. His love makes us whole. And as it does, a funny thing happens. Our desires begin to change. What’s import-ant to God becomes what’s important to us. What makes Him happy is what makes us happy.

God promises that as we keep company with Him, He holds nothing back from us. In Him, our joy is complete.

“Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you

the desires of your heart.”

PSALM 37:4

What is the desire of your heart today?

What is the longing you are hoping that desire will fulfill?

As we look back over our lives, we can see how God ful-filled our desires in unexpected ways or gave us something better than what we thought we wanted. What’s one way you’ve seen God fulfill a desire you didn’t know you had or answered a prayer in a way you didn’t expect?

Most of us think of peace as the absence of conflict, but Jesus promises us something better. He gives us peace in the face of conflict. When we let Jesus into our lives and trust Him with everything, we can walk into any situation with confident assurance knowing He won’t abandon us in our time of need.

When we know our God is with us, working through the Holy Spirit to guide us and comfort us, we don’t have to fear the future or be paralyzed by “What ifs…” We can experience deep and lasting peace.

“Peace I leave with you;my peace I give you.

I do not give to you as the world gives.Do not let your hearts be troubled

and do not be afraid.”

JOHN 14:27

What does it look like for someone to be at peace?

Have you ever been in a difficult situation where you’ve experienced unexplainable peace? What happened?

Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us that peace and prayer go hand in hand. Is there anything you’re stressed about today? Take some time to pray about it and let the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, guard your heart and your mind.

The yokes oxen wore were bulky, wooden harnesses that allowed them to pull farming machines. Weighed down by their yoke, the work was exhausting — even for a big, strong ox.

We don’t need to have seen a yoke to understand what it feels like to be burdened. The burdens of life weigh us down and wear us out. What Jesus offers us is an exchange: Take off the yokes we’re carrying and attach ourselves to Him instead. Jesus promises that when we work alongside Him, we’ll find rest for our souls. No longer weighed down by our old burdens, Jesus teaches us a new way of operating and brings purpose to what once felt like meaningless toil.

“Come to me, all you who are wearyand burdened, and I will give you rest.

Take my yoke upon you andlearn from me, for I am gentle

and humble in heart, and you willfind rest for your souls. For my yoke

is easy and my burden is light.”

Just like some days are so good we don’t want them to end, some days are so bad we just want to begin again. The good news is we can.

Every day is a new opportunity to experience God’s love and mercy. He never runs out of compassion or tires of helping us. God is loyal, constant, and steadfast. He promises that no matter how many times we have to repent, He is always willing to begin again.

“Because of the Lord’s great lovewe are not consumed,

for his compassions never fail.They are new every morning;

great is your faithfulness.”

We may want to believe God’s plans and purposes, and we may want to experience abundant life in God. But isn’t it easy to throw our arms up when we look at our human circumstances and limits?

So God gives us a word of freedom: What I am bringing about comes only in my power, not yours. We can take God at His word, and we can trust Him to grow our faith, to arrange our circumstances, and to give us the ability to accomplish all that He says is possible.

“Jesus looked at them and said,‘With man this is impossible,

but with God all things are possible.’”

Every day, our hearts and minds are busy with what to think, what to feel, and what will give us the most satisfaction. Jesus promises to simplify our choices and calm our restless hearts. Jesus left heaven and came to Earth with a sin-gle-minded purpose: to give us life to the full.

Knowing this gives us a weapon against every sinful tempta-tion, deceptive desire, and worldly distraction that Satan uses to harm us and steal our joy. Maximum fulfillment comes only in relationship with God, and Jesus is the only way to find it.

“The thief comes only to steal and killand destroy; I have come that they

may have life, and have it to the full.”

Before the world began, God planned, prepared, and promised eternal life with Him in heaven. We were created in God’s image and designed to live in community.

Sin entered the world and broke our connection to God, but God’s love made a way. Through Jesus, we can be restored to God’s original design and live forever in community with Him.

shall not perish but have eternal life.”

We are all born full of sin. Our rebellious nature covers every decision we make and everything we do. Like red Carolina clay on white Converse sneakers, it’s impossible to get rid of on our own.

The same way that the stench of dirt, sweat, and grit stops us from embracing our spouses, our sin separates us from God. When we confess our sins, Jesus promises to forgive us. He doesn’t ridicule us or shame us; He welcomes us in and cleans us up. Through Jesus’ forgiveness, our sin is removed and our relationship with God is restored. Without the barrier of sin, we can run into the arms of a loving God where we find real, lasting joy.

“If we confess our sins,he is faithful and just

and will forgive us our sinsand purify us from

all unrighteousness.”

God promises that when we put our faith in Jesus, we will be saved. Salvation isn’t something we do, it’s something God does for us.

For many of us, the most difficult part of salvation is not believing that Jesus is who He says He is. It’s continuing to believe, through all our ups and downs, that God will make good on His promise — that we have been and are being saved.

“If you declare with your mouth,‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart

that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart

that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that youprofess your faith and are saved.”

Ever heard the saying, “God won’t give you more than you can handle”? If you’ve been in a situation where someone told you this, you know it’s far from the truth. God never promises not to put more on us than we can handle; He promises to guide us through adversity.

One of the best things that can come out of an overwhelming situation is a deeper understanding of how much we need God’s help. Difficulty doesn’t have to drive us away from God. If we’ll lean into what God wants to show us, difficulty will drive us closer to God in ways good times can’t.

“No temptation has overtaken youexcept what is common to mankind.

And God is faithful; he will not let yoube tempted beyond what you can bear.

But when you are tempted,he will also provide a way out

so that you can endure it.”

Ever wanted to escape from a part of your identity? If you’re a sibling, you know what this feels like. For 12 years in every class, you were known as “John’s sister” or “Ashley’s broth-er.” No matter how different you and your siblings were, you couldn’t erase where you came from.

When Jesus saves us, He gives us a new identity. We are no longer who we used to be. Jesus’ death covered our sins: past, present, and future.

The condemnation you feel when you hear a song from the past? It is not from the Lord. Because when we are in Christ, God promises not to hold our sin against us.

“Therefore, there is nowno condemnation for those

Americans have an obsession with justice. Think about the number of crime dramas on TV today. You can probably list five without even trying.

God loves justice. It’s the reason He cannot let sin go unpunished. But God is as merciful as He is just, and nowhere are those two qualities more clear than the cross where Jesus died. Jesus took the punishment we deserved. As a result, we can confess our sins without fear, knowing God will greet us with mercy, love, and grace.

“He does not treat us as our sinsdeserve or repay us according to

our iniquities. For as high as the heavensare above the earth, so great is his love

If you knew you couldn’t lose, would you bet differently? Most of us would say yes. We’d go all in and wait with anticipation, not worry, for the outcome.

God promises us that His love is a sure bet. Once we’re in Christ, nothing we do and nothing that happens to us can separate us from God’s love. He does not kick us out of His family when we mess up. God’s grace is big enough to forgive all our sins, and His power is big enough to conquer them. That fact allows us to approach each day with confidence.

“For I am convinced that neitherdeath nor life, neither angels nor demons,

If we achieve our salvation by good works, then we must sustain our salvation by our efforts. We become like employees who receive their deserved wages. And when we can no longer produce, we live in fear that we will be fired.

Our salvation is made of stronger stuff. The focus of Jesus’ promise is this: “I give.” God gives us salvation, not as a wage for good works, but by grace through faith. We are saved, not because of what we have done, but based on the efforts of Jesus Christ, the founder and finisher of our faith.

From our new position as sons and daughters, we are free to follow and obey, assured, confident, and free of doubt.

We all have a hard time making sense of life. We mostly tend to grumble about discouraging things and despair about trials. We even doubt God will help us through them! What we don’t often do is ask God about them.

God promises to give us the wisdom we need for understand-ing. God doesn’t expect us to know everything we need to know to meet our challenges or make the right choices. But He does expect us to ask Him and listen for His answer.

Through the Bible, God pours out His wisdom, and it will always be more than enough to meet our needs.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”

No one wants to experience suffering and troubles. If we’re honest, we question why we have to go through them. When we’re at our weakest and most weary, God is building our character. Our struggles carve the channels through which the love of God flows into our hearts.

God promises none of our pain is wasted! He is working through difficulty for our ever-increasing good. And what is the highest good? The all-satisfying hope of Jesus — for ourselves and those around us. The experience of Jesus’ love enables us to triumph in our trials.

“Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know

In Christ, we understand more fully the lengths our Father will go to meet the needs of His children. The Bible promises that from the wealth of His glory in Christ, God will supply our every need. What this means is that God meets our needs with the same zeal with which He goes about bringing Himself glory.

He has brought glory to Himself by sending His one and only Son to seek and save the lost, die for our sin, and resurrect victoriously from the dead. So, we are not positioned as beggars or thieves but as sons and daughters. Because of God’s glory on display in Christ, we have confidence that our eyes have not yet seen, nor our ears heard, nor our hearts imagined how God will provide for us.

We all worry. But for some, worry defines and dominates every waking thought. Imagine being able to live with a peaceful, quiet mind. In Jesus, it is possible. Just as Daniel slept peacefully in the lion’s den, we can be free from constant worry even in a world filled with opportunities for anxiety. Daniel’s secret is available to us. Daniel regularly cast all his anxieties on the Lord through prayer and petition. He spent time thanking God for his blessings and making his needs and requests known to God.

God promises to protect our hearts and minds from worry. Having all that free space to peacefully think about other things would truly be hard to imagine. You might say that it would transcend all understanding.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

And the peace of God, which transcendsall understanding, will guard your hearts

What could you do with the extra time you spend in worry?

What are you worried about right now? Why not takea minute now to talk to your Father?

If God is a loving Father with the ability to give His children incredible things, why doesn’t He, at once, place all things at our fingertips? In this promise, Jesus promises that we will find what we’re looking for if we’ll submit to the process of asking, seeking, and knocking.

In the course of asking and receiving, seeking and finding, knocking and opening, God helps us comprehend the depths of His Fatherly love and giving nature. We can’t be entitled or ignorant of His blessings. We are now fully aware of our need as children and His provision as a good, good Father.

“Ask and it will be given to you;seek and you will find; knock and

the door will be opened to you.For everyone who asks receives;

the one who seeks finds;and to the one who knocks,

the door will be opened.”

MATTHEW 7:7-8

REFLECTWhy don’t we ask our Father for more?

Besides material possessions, what are you asking God for?

What are you taking for granted now that you were once grateful for?
