She is tired. She is e
xhausted. She is worn.
But she keeps going on. She continued in her
determinacy and found many positions, none
with consistence.
Part –time, half- time, 100%

I’m going to lose my mind!” “It’s n

you know or what you know. It’s who knows you
and your ambition.” The difference is w
hat is she
doing to market herself? And how well sh

listen….
She did listen. To neighbors, family, friends,
business people, the bus driver &people at the bus
stop, Even in restaurants and kitchens. She heard
of an organization that helped people find their
way. Employment? Permanent? Fir
st thing her year
unemployed mind thought, NO WAY! She went
to the Seminole County Casselberry Library to a
Monday night meeting**. Hoping despite hope
again, resume completed. She is always nervous
to meet new people, under the pressure that 1st

the same tired but hopeful look she had been
wearing, herself. It was then & there that she got
some real help. An interesting, stout man by the
name of Howie Appel, Stood in front of the room
and immediately drew us in, with a loud, firm,
“Let’s begin”! He gave a small introduction of
who he was, what is P
roNet, and what we were
covering.
He explained how they were all dedicated to
the under-employed and unemployment cause.
The realization that there was true help caused
her to pause. He introduced Brenda Sanford,
the “Director of Training” who asked the room,
“Does everyone know what a “30 Second
“Elevator Speech” is?”
She went on describe &

me that you just might be “feelin’ me”. So I’m going to take you into my creation again. Honestly
and truly, this wasn’t planned. In September 2010, I reported that the unemployment rate was 11.4
percent. A small drop has founds us somewhat encouraged now and at 11.1 %*( 1) Previously mentioned ,
1 in every 171 housing units received a foreclosure filing in June 2010. 1 in every 449 housing units re

a foreclosure filing in March 2011*(2) this shows a small decrease in those losing their homes. But feelings of
contention, keeps people constantly on their toes, full of woes. There is help. The economy has taught us how to
be frugal “coupon queens” and “rob Peter to pay Paul”. I believe we have the ability, intelligence & will within in
us all. Question is; do you know how to pick yourself up after a fall? A friend once told me, if you fall and you can
look up, then YOU CAN GET UP! Yesterday was when it was the time to “put up or shut up”. With our world full
of catastrophe after catastrophe, there is light surrounding the shadows. It’s
what creates them. For those that need
support, I have an organization I now decree, to be one of the best amidst our Orlando society. But more than a simple
poem, I hope it will truly GET U GOING!

have got about 30 seconds of someone’s
attention. 30 seconds to plant that seed that
could grow into another meeting to discuss
an opportunity!
Some suggestions were “let your passion
show!” Don’t be dry with job experience and
your stats.
Show you care, pay attention,
create a picture, and maintain eye
contact.
Make it conversational, but be memorable.
Be matter of fact. Ask questions like
“Do you
know anyone that could use my talents?” And
“May I have a card?” always offering yours.
This is using your resources, networking at its
finest. 30 seconds is not timeless.
Remember, clear speaking reflects clear
thinking, every time. Practice, Practice
,
Practice and don’t worry,
you’ll be fine!
Howie gives us updates on what recruiters
reviewing resumes are and are not looking
for, Offering us more skills to get our
resumes/applications in the door.
Use key/action words instead of cliché’s. No more “objective

“references upon request” Be aware your social networking sites are being
used for eliminating even the best of the best. Then the highlight of the
night, an energetic, engaging and experienced guest sp

group exercises, asking do you have a “Job Search Strategy?”
Informing us there are 3 key elements; Resume, job search & interview
skills. All of which should be strong. All of which will end your job search
tragedy. Inside her head she heard “Here is w

It was announced that there would be another free LinkedIn.com Seminar
May 17th @ City College, To learn how to make the most of a great
internet job search resource.
She signed up on the registration form, of course! She submitted her
resume for review, looking forward to the input. She introduced herself
with confidence to her fellow meeting members afterwards. Feeling
encouraged. With some hard, “due diligence” work sh
e would find a new
career & be anything. ProNet Career Resources showed her the dreams of
a career instead of a job are a possible reality. As in the words of Mortal
Combat – the future was not going to be a “total fatality”.
