Properties of MatterBy: Mariah Boyd

Page 2: Properties of matter

Physical Property

Can see what it looks like Might have a certain smell Can touch it with hands

Organized by color, shape and size.

Page 3: Properties of matter

Sorting By Color

Each color is identified by a name Ex: Green, Blue and Red Group alike colors Which apple doesn’t belong?

Page 4: Properties of matter

Shapes of Objects

Cone Sphere- a ball Pyramid Cube

Page 5: Properties of matter

Difference in Sizes

Objects can be… Small Medium Large

Big or small?

Page 6: Properties of matter

States Of Matter

Solid Liquid Gas

These are called phases

Page 7: Properties of matter

Solid

Molecules are close together

Is a specific size and shape

Doesn’t take the shape of a container

Ex: Ice, wood, etc.

Page 8: Properties of matter

Liquid

Molecules are more spaced apart

Flows Takes the shape of

a container Ex: Soda, Water,

etc.

Page 9: Properties of matter

Gas

Molecules are very spread apart

Easily compressed Takes the shape of

the container Ex: Helium,

Oxygen, etc.

Page 10: Properties of matter

Water

Found in all 3 phases Solid-Ice Liquid-water Gas-water vapor

Page 11: Properties of matter

Temperatures

Measures how hot or cold something is

Measured with a toll called thermometer

The degree is the unit used

Page 12: Properties of matter

Knowing What to Wear

When it’s warm

Shorts T-shirts Swimsuit

When it’s cold

Coats Pants Gloves

Page 13: Properties of matter

Melting and Freezing Point

Melting-When a solid turns to liquid

Freezing- A liquid turns to solid. Happens at 0 degrees Celcius.

Page 14: Properties of matter

Boiling Point

Liquid is Heated It begins to bubble Then the liquid turns to gas Happens at 100 degrees Celcius

What We Learned

Physical properties are observed There are 3 States of Matter Temperature- How hot or Cold
