LITTER Keeping our neighborhoods,

shopping areas and parks clean for good reasons

We all have a skill or talent when shared can make a difference in another's life. An Avondale resident wants to help his neighbors unable to maintain outside areas of properties; some needing attention per City Code or at the homeowners request. Soon a home on Sagamore is getting fresh paint, thanks to Mr. Dan Ryan and support from the Jaycee volunteers, the Old Pathway Pentecostal Church and the City of Riverside. This Summer, overgrown grass and shrubs were cleared for a home on Hypathia. 'Help and support' is donated labor, money and time.

Problems Caused by Litter? When litter is on sidewalks or along curbs, it may get washed down into storm drains during a heavy rain , polluting sources of drinking water and recreation areas. Animals are attracted to areas with lots of litter. They find their food among the trash and can pick up germs and become carriers for diseases that may make people sick.

NOVEMBER 6, 2018 REMEMBER TO VOTE

REMINDER: Trash cans may be placed on the curb no earlier than 24 hours before

pick-up and removed within 24 hours after trash pick-up.

It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies that protect against flu to develop in the body, so make plans to get vaccinated early in fall, before flu season begins. The CDC recommends that people get a flu vaccine by the end of October. Depending on the year, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that every year, influenza affects 9-60 million people, causes 140,000-710,100 hospitalizations, and results in 12,000-56,000 deaths. Older adults are especially at risk for catching the flu. The CDC recommendation: everyone over the age of 6 months should get their seasonal flu shot.
