INTRODUCTION

I.3 Background
Natural resources are all natural wealth in the form of inanimate objects or
living things on earth and can be used to meet human needs. In Indonesia, the number
and quality of natural resources, especially in the energy sector are many and scattered
in various areas but also the quality is very good.
Natural resources is one of the basic capital construction. As the capital base,
natural resources should be utilized to its fullest, but in a way that is not destructive.
Therefore, methods used should be selected which can maintain and develop a capital
base that is more beneficial to development in the future. Experts use natural resources
with advanced technology. Qualified experts who will produce a quality innovation and
produce industry quality.
Therefore, a college graduate is required to have academic knowledge, skills of
thinking, management skills and communication skills. Deficiency of one of the four skills
/ proficiency can lead to reduced quality of graduates. Synergism fourth will be reflected
through the ability of graduates in the speed of finding solutions to problems or
challenges faced mainly on Indonesia's natural resources sector. Behaviors and thoughts
that are shown to be constructive realistic, creative means (unique and useful) and can
be realized. The ability to think and act creatively in essence can be made every human
being let alone a higher education. Hence, creativity is the incarnation of integrative 3
(three) major factor in man, namely, the thoughts, feelings and skills. Factors contained
in the mind of imagination, perception and reasoning. Factor consists of feeling emotion,

aesthetics and harmonization. While the skill factor containing talent, physiology and
experience. Thus, in order to achieve the level of creative students, the three factors
referred aligned to be optimal in an activity that is named Geology Paper Contest 2011
(GPC 2011).
I.4 Objectives
The purpose of the holding of GPC 2011 is to deliver the same degree of
enlightenment student creativity and innovation based on the mastery of science and
technology as well as the belief that high. In order to prepare themselves to be leaders
who are scholars, entrepreneurs and independent-spirited and wise, students are given
the opportunity to implement the capability, skills, attitudes of responsibility, build
teamwork and develop independence through creative activities in the field of Earth
Sciences.
In addition the purpose of holding of GPC 2011 is to maintain and develop the
opportunities and challenges of natural resources in Indonesia, especially the energy
sector.

CHAPTER IIACTIVITY
II.1 Activity Form
GPC 2011 has several stages of selection, namely selection of abstract, text
selection, and selection of presentation. All started with the acceptance level of
abstraction from various universities / majors invited. Total abstract in not limited to a
specific collection time limit. Then by the jury, selected by 8 of the best abstract. Eight
finalists abstract is to be completed in full the main text with a limit of certain shipments
to the committee. After the main paper will be evaluated by the jury. At the appointed
time, eight finalists will be invited to present his work in front of the jury. Apart from in
front of the jury, the finalists also exhibit their works to the public that comes at the
GeoInvention event organized by the HMTG FT UGM. Ratings taken from the main
manuscript assessment and evaluation presentation. Then the winner is selected first,
second, and favorite. First and second winner is determined by the jury. While the
champion favorite GeoInvention selected by the visitor.
