1. Current wording under “Major Field Requirements”: “A grade of C- or better is necessary for required courses in the major

department; these courses cannot be taken on a S/Cr/NC basis. For required courses outside the major department, grades of S, C- or better are necessary.”

Proposed new wording: “ For a course to count toward the major, a grade of C- or

better must be earned; these courses cannot be taken on a S/Cr/NC basis.”

  2. Current wording under “Satisfactory/Credit/No Credit (S/Cr/NC or

“scrunch”) Option”: “Note that required courses in the student's major department cannot

be taken on a S/Cr/NC basis.” Proposed new wording: “ Note that for a course to count toward the major, it cannot be

taken on a S/Cr/NC basis.”

Latin Honors Proposal

 

Current Language in Academic Regulations and Procedures:

Carleton recognizes outstanding academic performance by noting at commencement those students with a grade point average of 3.25 or better (cum laude), 3.50 or better (magna cum laude), and 3.90 or better (summa cum laude). 

  

Proposed Language:

Carleton recognizes outstanding academic performance by awarding the Latin honors of cum laude, magna cum laude, and summa cum laude to students with qualifying cumulative grade point averages. These honors are noted on diplomas and final transcripts of those students. For students in the graduating class of 2014 and earlier, Latin honors are awarded to students with a grade point average of 3.25 (cum laude), 3.50 or better (magna cum laude), and in 3.90 or better (summa cum laude).

Beginning with the class of 2015, Latin honors will be awarded to students with a grade point average in the top 2% of their graduating class (summa cum laude), those in the remaining top 15% (magna cum laude), and those in the remaining top 30% (cum laude).
