The members of the Vision Groupwork very hard on behalf of thecommunity, we lobby, write letters, email, telephone and basicallybombard local councillors withrequests on issues that affect theresidents of New Farnley. Whetherit is the bus service, children’s playarea, speed limits, horse manure, dog waste, proposed planning andmaintaining the history and ethosof the village – we will fight for theright action to be taken.

Over the past months we havebeen lobbying the local council andplanning department on a few prob-lems where planning permissionand strict guidelines of buildinghave not been adhered to, whichmay mean that the building workinvolved in these issues may haveto be taken down and started again.

We have on your behalf spoke atthe Council Meetings with regard tothe proposed building on the fieldbetween Castle Ings Gardens andLow Moor Side, at this moment intime the Butterfly Field land is beingwithdrawn from sale.

We have managed to get thespeed limit reduced on WhitehallRoad from 50mph to 40mph; thespeed limit will be reduced to20mph along Lawns Lane throughthe Maples and onto Chapel Lane.We are also in discussion with LeedsCity Council with regard to a pedes-trian island on Whitehall Road justabove the bus stop at Woolley Av-enue, although we are not sure howlong this will take we will perseverewith this on the grounds of publicsafety.

We have an on-going problemwith dog waste and litter and somepeople will say there are notenough bins around! well within thesmall park in the middle of the

village there are over10 bins and weare awaiting more bins being in-stalled on the outskirts of the vil-lage. We have requested these to goat the top of Low Moor Side, WalshLane and down Whitehall Road.

However we can have as manybins as possible but it is up toeveryone to keep the village tidy, soplease do look after our village it isa nice village and together we canmake it look better - thanks.

These are just a few of the issuesthat we undertake on behalf of thecommunity, if people raise issueswith us then we will do our best toresolve the issues for you - butthese things do take time, so pleasebe patient. We are in regular contactwith various Councillors who serveand assist the community in manyways.

Residents in Farnley are beingasked to take care and keep an eyeon their neighbours, especiallythose who may be elderly and/orliving on their own. News from your Local NPT

As some of you may be aware, here at Neighbourhood Action,

we are very fortunate to have a min-bus which we share with another

Older People’s Service – OWLS(Older Wiser Local Seniors), based InHeadingley.

Having access to the minibusdoes help us organise regular tripsand activities for our members andservice users, with the 14 seater-plus driver and volunteer ,often en

route to Morley & Crossgat forshopping, pub lunches andone off trips, such as a recent

one to the filming of Countdown,at Salford Quays.

Because we share the bus it isnot always possible to have it asoften as we would like but we arehoping to expand on our days andtime if there is enough demand, andmay be able to hire it out to otherCommunity Groups in the near fu-ture – so watch this space!

I look forward to meeting you allat Neighbourhood Action events.

Bowling Club

New Farnley In Bloom have con-tinued to work hard this year, in

close partnership with our friendsfrom the New Farnley BowlingGreen, New Farnley CommunityCentre, St Jame’s Church and par-ticularly with Michael Waring fromParks and Countryside who isbased at Farnley Hall.

All the 26 tubs situated aroundthe village have had various sea-sonal planting, and the Springbulbs have been a wonderful splashof colour helping all the weeks ofwind and rain be a fading memory.

At the last NFIB meeting 4th Feb-ruary 2014 Michael Waring kindlyattended and gave the group an up-date of the work his team had un-dertaken around New Farnley whichhave included.

Additional flower beds havebeen introduced to New FarnleyPark, with the possibility of furtherplanting to be undertaken.

Thousands of bulbs have beenplanted amongst the shrubs in thepark.

There has been regular mainte-nance of the park and more re-cently his team have pruned all theshrubs hanging over the footpathleading down to the Co-op.

The entrance to Farnley Hall Parkfrom Lawns Lane is regularly main-tained and is looking lovely.

The ‘Upper Moor Side VillageGreen’ which is an adopted VillageGreen (adjacent to the Woodcock) ismaintained on a regular basis, andmore recently Parks and Country-side have planted additional shrubsto the boundary wall of the green tohelp improve the environment.During the meeting members en-quired about other issues whichParks and Countryside may be able

to support these included addi-tional litter bins.

Horse Riders using the New Farn-ley Community Village Green as abridle path, it was suggested fur-ther tree planting may help. Parksand Countryside would help sup-port this. (since the meeting somenew trees have been planted by histeam)

Summer planting will take placetowards the end of May/June using

a theme of red and white begonias& lobelia to commemorate the FistWorld War.

There was also a suggestion touse some red poppies which wouldbe very vibrant reminder.

We will introduce some smallshrubs around the New FarnleyCommunity Centre’s Village Greensign and some summer planting.

Finally the NFIB is pleased to an-nounce that after negotiating withLeeds City Council and the High-way’s Team they have securedsponsorship for the large traffic is-land to the junction of Back Lane,Whitehall Road and GildersomeLane.

We are anticipating that they willstart the work in April of this year, the New Farnley In Bloom is open toall residents and we would welcomeanyone to come along to our infor-mal meetings. The next meetingwhich will be held at the Lancaster-ian School Room on 12th May at1.00pm, any ideas and suggestionsare welcome.
