It’s clear to me that the masks are my most important props/costumes. I

wanted to bring authenticity to my music video, and so to do this I am going to

make them myself out of recycled cardboard. I purchased the PDF file which gives you measurements and

instructions, and am going to paint them and gloss them afterwards to they’re

waterproof. These are pictures on how I hope they come out. If I have any

problems in making them I have back-up rubber masks that I can use.

Powder paintI am going to use powder paint in my music

video when they have a paint bomb fight in the forest. When this is thrown, instead of being

wet like normal paint it remains as a powder so will make less mess as it can be dusted off their

closed. I can get 10 colours for around £4 which will be more than plenty.

Smoke BombsI want to use smoke bombs within my video to immerse my actresses in colour. This is related to the concept of

dream pop, where everything is very atmospheric, colourful and dream-like. To set them off you simply

light the pellets and they burn for around 30 seconds. I can get around 10 different colours for around £5. I will most likely use this in the paint fight, the end scene and

other improvised scenes.

This is the Crosley vinyl player that will be featured in the first scene. As marked on my

shot list, after the short intro, Sophie will wake up and place a vinyl with the song title, “Buzzcut Season”, on and the non-diegetic music will start to play. I found a

vinyl in a charity shop so I can personalise the label to match the chosen song for my

music video.

This is the modern take of the Robert’s vintage radio. As shown on my shot list, this will also feature in the opening scene. It has a clock on the top which I will take a shot of,

followed by the radio starting to play in order to wake Sophie up.

These are colourful helium balloons that I will be using in one of my improvised scenes, where my actresses will attach

negative words onto the balloons before letting them go. They are a symbol of

removing all negativity in your life, which links back to the lyrics and theme of dream-pop. I am going to use the helium machine at my work to fill them up, so I know they

can be done at any time.

These a fire lanterns that will feature in the final scene. I am going to film

my characters all letting one go, however I am going to purchase lots to hopefully light up the sky like in

the picture to the right. These have a similar symbolic meaning to the balloons, however I wanted to

feature them to create a positive ending to the music video.

Costumes

I want my characters to be in normal clothes, and their masks to be an “abnormality” and to stand out. Because of this I don’t want to over complicate or manipulate their costume, as I want it to be as real to life as possible. Because of this, I am going to

allow my actresses to wear their normal clothes with their normal style. I know them all extremely well and they all have very individual styles. They are all very grunge,

bohemian or festival like, and build up their outfits with layers of clothes and jewellery. As I will be filming in winter, they will need to be warm and comfortable, and so I

would like them to wear jeans, shorts and tights, or skirts with jumpers or shirts. The pictures above show clothes that either I or one of my cast members actually have and

may be used in the music video..

Accessories

These are the type of accessories that my cast will wear. These are the normal sort of things they wear on a day-to-day basis, such as rings, bracelets and necklaces. Another significant costume is the roller skates – these are photographs of the skates that two of my cast members have. I will be lending my pair from “Starlight express”, to another actress. These will be worn in Salisbury square, and hopefully in the improvised road scene.
