The 101 Gallery is used primarily to display Western art collections and other specially created exhibits that pertain to the sport of rodeo. Exhibits in this gallery are changed at least twice a year. In 2019, the gallery displayed two collections: Hall of Fame: First 40 Years and Speciality Acts in Rodeo.

HALL OF FAME: FIRST 40 YEARSThis exhibit outlined some of the museum permanent collections. It gave guests a taste of the various collections we have at the Hall all at once. Since we are unable to have all of these items out on display year-round, visitors saw a little bit of the amazing history we are preserving here.

The exhibit opened May 1 and was featured through September.

Some of the collections on display included:• Historical moments in the Hall of Fame’s 40 years• Panoramic Photo Collection• Chris LeDoux Collection• Casey Tibbs Collection• Hafley-Shelton Wild West Show Collection• Hesston NFR Buckle Collection• Ardourel Bit and Spur Collection• Heap Collection• Ben Allen and Lewis Portnoy Rodeo Photograph Collection• Artist and the Bucking Horse Collection• Short Collection• Rodeo Program Collection• Western Clothing Collection• Winston Pro Tour Collection• Graham Family Collection

SPECIALITY ACTS IN RODEOThis exhibit featured various trick riders, trick ropers, rodeo clowns, and other specialty acts to help tell the story of this discipline within the sport of professional rodeo. Some of the items on display included Leon Adams’ vest and chaps, Whiplash the Cowboy Monkey’s saddle, and postcards from Tad Lucas’ personal collection.

Also featured in this exhibit include the Graham Family Collection, the Hafley-Shelton Collection, the Western Clothing Collection, as well as many photographs from the collections of various inductees.

PHOTOGRAPH CONSERVATION PROJECTThe ProRodeo Hall of Fame is taking on a project of cleaning, restoring, digitizing and rehousing 120 panoramic and oversized photographs. The photographs date back to 1919 and up to 1955.

The ProRodeo Hall of Fame received a $95,500 grant from the National Park Service. This grant is a matching funds grant so we must raise the additional amount of $95,500 to restore the entire collection.

Donations will double as they will match dollar for dollar the amount we raise, so any amount helps. To date, we have raised $39,905 and are more than one third of the way to our goal. We need help to reach that final amount. If you are interested in donating, please call (719)528-5754.

Conservation of the ProRodeo Hall of Fame Panoramic and Oversized Photographic Collection is being supported in part by a Federal Save America’s Treasures grant administered by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

LIVESTOCK EXHIBITThe rodeo livestock exhibit returned to the ProRodeo Hall of Fame for the sixth year. Bucking horses Bartender and Diamond Mine from Powder River Rodeo called the ProRodeo Hall of Fame home from May-August. This exhibit not only allows museum guests to see up close some great rodeo animal athletes, it also allows them to become educated on the PRCA’s animal welfare program and to learn about the care and treatment of rodeo livestock.

Bartender, 24, made seven National Finals Rodeo appearances and multiple trips to the National Circuit Finals Rodeo. She was a 2000 Mountain States Circuit Saddle Bronc Horse of the Year. Her mother and father both made National Finals Rodeo appearances.

Diamond Mine, 24, made numerous trips to the National Circuit Finals and the Mountain States Circuit Finals, plus a 1999 NFR appearance. She competed as a bareback and saddle bronc horse. Two of her offspring have made National Finals Rodeo appearances.

SPECIAL EVENTS

The ProRodeo Hall of Fame was proud to once again hold the 23rd Annual Pikes Peak Special Rodeo. Above are the contestant and rodeo queens from the Colorado Springs Therapeutic Riding Center (CSTRC) and StableStrides with local area rodeo queens Girls of the West, Douglas County Fair and Rodeo, and El Paso County Fair and Rodeo.

INDUCTION WEEKENDThe ProRodeo Hall of Fame inducted 12 new members on August 3rd. Joining an impressive group of 330 inductees included Allen Bach - Team Roping, Dean Gorsuch - Steer Wrestling, Larry Peabody - Bareback Riding, Doug Brown - Bull Riding, Jimmie Munroe - Barrel Racing, Sammy Thurman Brackenbury - Barrel Racing, Tommy Lucia - Contract Personnel, Jerome Robinson - Notable, Florence Youree - Notable, Jiggs & Elra Beutler - Stock Contractor, Commotion - Livestock, and Cody Stampede Rodeo - Rodeo Commettee. The weekend kicked off on August 1st with our 32nd Annual ProRodeo Hall of Fame Golf Tournament at Perry Park Country Club in Larkspur, Colorado. We have been lucky enough to play at this beautiful golf course the last six years. You can’t beat the spectacular views, or the peacefulness of the mountains. Montana Silversmiths belt buckles were given to our first, second, and third place teams. All players received goodie bags, complimentary Coors and Pendleton Whisky, and had their photograph taken with 2019 Miss Rodeo America Taylor McNair.

We held our annual Cowboy Ball on August 2nd. A fun, relaxing night of catching up with friends and family, dinner, and dancing while raising money for the Hall of Fame. The silent and live auction raised $22,235. This event is open to the public and had 431 guests attend. We also presented our 2019 Ken Stemler Pioneer Award to Guy Elliot. After dinner, guests moved outside to the patio for entertainment by country artist, John Wayne Schulz.

Inductees got up bright and early on August 3rd for the inductee breakfast held at the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in the Hal Littrell Pavilion. Following breakfast, was the induction ceremony for the Class of 2019. All 12 inductees had a short video presentation made of their rodeo accomplishment and were given a Montana Silversmiths awards buckle and a miniature replica of Edd Hayes’ bronze, “The Champ.” Following the ceremony was a complimentary lunch for all museum guests.

We couldn’t end the weekend without a rodeo! Inductees were treated to a special VIP night at the Douglas County Fair and Rodeo in Castle Rock, Colorado. Each inductee was recognized at the rodeo with a stage coach ride around the arena.

40th Anniversary CelebrationThe ProRodeo Hall of Fame turned 40 on August 6th and we threw a party! What an incredible and memorable day. We had 1979 throwback admission pricing. It was just $2.50 for adults and $1 for kids! There was a bouncy house, face painting, yard games, a stick horse rodeo, vintage rodeo poster sale, and door prize drawings all day long. World Champion trick roper Tevor Dreher spent the day with us as well as the Pikes Peak Rangerettes also preformed.

The first 100 guests through the doors received a free Kona Ice courtesy of the ProRodeo Hall of Fame. We also had various food trucks at the museum for lunch and dinner.

In the evening, country music band Narrow Gauge helped close the night with a free concert for all our guests to enjoy. We also served a 6 foot by 3 foot birthday cake! It was huge and delicious.

The museum is proud to be located in Colorado Springs and we are thankful for the out pour of love the community has shown us.

2019 NFRThe ProRodeo Hall of Fame traveled to Las Vegas for the National Finals Rodeo. It was a jammed packed 14 days which started with the 12th Annual Wrangler Gold Buckle Gala at the South Point Hotel & Casino on December 2nd.

This year, we honored Cotton Rosser with our 2019 Legend of ProRodeo award. “I’m just the PR man now,” Cotton said. “I never imagined my rodeo career would be like this. I’m the richest guy in the world with memories and friends. I’ve loved every minute of the rodeo business and I would do it all over again. It has been a great experience.”

The evening included entertainment by Trevor Dreher and the Trever Dreher Band. Rodeo clown Justin Rumford and Bobby Engelbert also preformed during the evening telling tales or singing songs about Cotton. The silent and live auction raised $55,893 for the ProRodeo Hall of Fame. The auction wouldn’t have been as successful if it wasn’t for all of our generous donors. We’re especially grateful to Hesston by Massey Ferguson for the tractor donation and Polaris for donating a Ranger to our live auction.

Following the Wrangler Gold Buckle Gala, the ProRodeo Hall of Fame kept busy promoting the Hall of Fame around Las Vegas. A few of the events included the PRCA

Gala emcees Bob Feist and Bob Tallman.

Convention Trade Show, Benny Binion’s World Famous Bucking Horse & Bull Sale, the South Point Western Gift Show, and a booth in The Shoe at the Thomas and Mack.

Once again, we hosted the Gold Card Room at Thomas and Mack with our sponsor, Boyd Gaming. The Gold Card Room is open to all gold card members of the PRCA for all 10 nights of the rodeo. Members received dinner and had a chance to win nightly drawings for various door prizes.

Closing out our time in Vegas was the 33rd Annual Spurs and Spikes Golf Tournament and Fundraiser on December 13th. The tournament sold out with 37 teams and raised over $50,000 for the ProRodeo Hall of Fame.

IMPROVEMENTS

Repairs were made to our beautiful pond in the garden. Cracks were sealed and repairs made to broken lines. Additional landscaping projects were made throughout the property.

The building received a much needed new roof over the summer. The original roof was in dire need of being replaced. The project took all summer to complete. While this isn’t visually exciting, we are thrilled that the building housing so much rodeo history is now protected.

MEMBERSHIPSPRORODEO HALL OF FAME MEMBERSHIPThe membership program went through a big change this year. We changed the name. The ProRodeo FanZone Membership was changed to the ProRodeo Hall of Fame Membership. The biggest reason for this change is that we wanted members to know that their support directly benefits the museum. All the great benefits that come with the membership stayed the same. We added a Lifetime Buckle and Student Buckle to the list of membership options.

A fun new benefit to the ProRodeo Hall of Fame Membership was the addition of a members only limited edition bobblehead. This limited edition bobblehead will change every year and will be of one of our Hall of Fame inductees. The 2019 bobblehead was of Casey Tibbs, a 9x World Champion, who was inducted in 1979, and was the first cowboy to transcend the sport and become a household name. His personality and flamboyant style put him on the cover of Life Magazine, while his prowess in the ring made him the living symbol of the Western icon, a cowboy on a bucking horse, for a decade.

For more information on the ProRodeo Hall of Fame Membership call (719)528-4748.

*NEW* RODEO COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIPSWe added a completely new membership program designed specifically for PRCA rodeo committees. The sport of rodeo wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for dedicated rodeo committees. To honor committees, we have a Committee Room that currently displays the 30 committees inducted into the Hall of Fame. There is also wall display featuring over 120 rodeos which have been sanctioned by the PRCA for 50 or more years.

For more information on Rodeo Committee Memberships call (719)528-4714.
