PROS AND CONS PROS CONS A remoted worker can be more productive Customized personal schedule while still maintaining employment The employee saves money for gas, lunch, daycare and commuting time Family, television and household duties can be a distraction Remote workers may also feel isolated from their office co-workers Remote workers lack supervision which can lead to decreased productivity Not being in the office may mean less career advancement They can be left out of the “fun stuff” (parties, contests, etc.) A few suggestions to help increase remote workers productivity: If possible, have a TEAM LEAD over remote employees to track work, projects and due dates and reporting to managements STAY IN CONTACT Monitor their work and receive regular updates LIMIT DAYS Limit telecommuting days so schedules don’t look like four-day weekends CLEARLY COMMUNICATE EXPECTATIONS Be clear about assigned tasks and time frames Successful telecommuters tend to be SELF-MOTIVATED and work well alone Some employees need a group atmosphere and are better suited to work in the office to engage in the interoffice camaraderie.
