PROSPAN COUGH RELIEF

Treating a productive cough.

Introducing Prospan.

Recommendations and benefits.

Clinical data.

Page 2: Prospan training module May 2014

Why treat a productive cough?

Coughing is a natural reflex to clear mucus from the lungs and airways.

Patients should not suppress productive coughs. It is better to expel mucus from lungs.

Patients need cough relief.

To minimise the risk of a further infection.

Introducing Prospan

Prospan treats respiratory tract infections such as productive and bronchial coughs.

It contains an active ingredient called Hedera helix that is recent to Australia but very well-established in Europe.

It is an expectorant that works as both

» a mucolytic AND

» soothes bronchial airways

Please watch the brief video on the next slide to learn more about Prospan’s mode of action

OTC Cough Products and Prospan

Current TGA regulations prevent the use of OTC (over-the-counter) cough medicines in under 6 year olds. Advice from a healthcare professional is required for and for 6 -12 years olds.

Prospan can still be used in children 0-6 years of age.

Pharmacist’s advice is required before administering Prospan to under 2 year olds.
