About us:

PanskuraBanamali College (affiliated toVidyasagar University) is a (State) Govt.aided college. This was accredited withgrade "A" by NAAC in 2005 and re-accredited with grade "A" by NAAC in 2016.Our college is arguably the largest college inRural Bengal in terms of the strength ofstudents and the number of subjects taughtat the undergraduate and postgraduatelevels. Recently, UGC has elevated thestatus to a Ph.D. Degree College.The college campus consists of a lush greenfootball ground and other open areas forvarious sports, flower and herbal gardens,several large buildings, general auditorium,gymnasium,Seminar room, Indoor sportscomplex and Yoga room, students’ hostel,bank, photocopy facility, students’ canteenand common rooms, cycle stand, teachers’accommodation, Principal’s quartersetc.besides filtered drinking water, library withOPAC system and internet facilities forstudents.

Attempt is always made to revamp theoutlook of the college by painting all thebuildings and through major repair worksand constructions, to improve the classroom infrastructures and to equip withmodern facilities. There are severalproposed and under-constructed projectslike the shifting of Library to a separatebuilding, new constructions for cycle stand,swimming pool, girls’ hostel inside theextended campus, opening of a canteenwith modern facilities and subsidized food,air conditioned library reading room andlabs.

Various subjects in Science, Humanities andCommerce are taught at the undergraduate(UG) andpostgraduate (PG) levels apartfrom some non-traditional and careeroriented subjects. PG courses are offered inBengali, History, Geography, Physics,Chemistry, Mathematics and ComputerScience. Non-traditional courses are offeredin Microbiology, Biotechnology, ComputerScience and Computer Applications.Teachers’ Training courses (B.Ed.) andTraining in Physical Education (B.P.Ed.) arealso two important directions at thisInstitution.Admission to M.P.Ed.Coursefrom this session will open up furtheropportunities for aspiring students.

The college has to function in three shifts:Day Section, Morning Section (ExtendedDay) and Evening Section.

Our college receives a well-mixed pool ofstudents from rural and urban areas. Ourstudents come out with flying colors andthey do well in further higher studies. It isglad to note that many of our students

excel in Research works and in high profilejobs all over the country and abroad.

A Golden History:

Our College celebrated its GoldenJubileein2010. The foundation stone of ourcollege was laid on 14th of December, 1960.Following the long cherished dream of thelocal people and their concerted efforts foropening up a degree college, a wealthy andcultured person of this soil,LateBanamaliCharanKhatuashowed his love forspreading higher education. Heundertookthe responsibility ofdeveloping acollege building at its present site. The landwas donated by a local gentleman LateHasmat Ali Khan and his co-sharers. Thecollege eventually came to be named as‘PanskuraBanamali College’ after itsprincipal donor and this institutioncontinues to be a unique symbol ofaspiration for higher education andexcellence at the locality.

How to reach:

The college is situated by the roadconnecting Panskura Railway Station andthe NationalHighway No. 6 (NH6, MumbaiRoad) , a walking distance from PanskuraStation. Panskura is a model station, 71 Kmfrom Howrah on the way to Kharagpur (SERailway) . There are frequent local trainservices between Howrah and Kharagpurbesides some passenger and express trainsalso stop here. It is easy to reach Panskuraby train or by bus from all directions.

Concessions:

Concessions for tuition fees are granted for economically weak and meritorious students. Onceobtained, the renewal of concession for a student for the subsequent years will depend on his/her performance, regular class attendance and conduct. Plucked candidates will not be furtherconsidered for a concession.

Scholarships and Govt. stipends cannot be enjoyed simultaneously with the concession. Hons. students in Comp. Science, Biotechnology, Microbiology and those in B.C.A., and

B.P.Ed.are not eligible for concessions in tuition fees.

Scholarships:

Apart from Govt. scholarships and stipends, our college gives away several small scholarships offered byindividuals. Further information in this regard can be obtained from the college office or from departments.Students are advised to keep track of several Govt. Scholarship Schemes like ‘Kanyashree’ for girl students and‘Inspire SHE’ for meritorious students etc.

Withdrawal Certificate:

Withdrawal certificates, for the students who want to withdraw their admission, can be obtained on payment of afee of Rs. 200 and all arrears of tuition and other fees. The certificate may be issued after three working days fromthe date of application.

Important Information:

A student in General Course will have to take 3 elective subjects with compulsory English, Bengali andEnvironmental Studies.

A student in Honours Course will have to take 2 elective subjects in addition to Hons. subject withcompulsory English, Bengali and Environmental Studies.

A student will not be allowed to take more than one language as elective subject in B.A. course. A candidate who appeared at the H.S. examination (or equivalent) but could not obtain pass marks in

that subject will not be allowed to take up that subject in the Degree course. Students who have not passed in Mathematics at the H.S. examination (or equivalent) will not be eligible

to apply for Economics, Physics, Chemistry, Comp. Science, B.C.A. For B.A./B.Com. (Hons. & Gen.), B.Sc. (Gen.) curriculum, the new syllabus of Vidyasagar University for

new 3-tier system would be followed. For B.Sc. (Hons) curriculum, the new syllabus of Vidyasagar University for new CBCS would be followed.

Important Notification:

Change of Subject/ Course – Under some special circumstances, change of a subject may be allowedwithin one month from the date of admission on payment of requisite fee. Such change would be guidedby the prescribed rule of Vidyasagar University.

For Non-traditional Subjects (Microbiology, Biotechnology, Computer Science and BCA) : Students are notallowed to change their honourssubjects once admitted.

The names of the students, who fail to attend 50% of the total classes held within first 15 working days,will be deleted from the admission register.

Students must attend at least 75% of the lectures held in each academic session else the permission toappear in the final Univ. exam would not be granted.

Casual students may be enrolled on payment of a requisite enrolment fee of Rs. 100 and other necessaryfees as prescribed by the college.

For Internal assessment, 10 marks for each paper are allotted (90 marks for final Univ. exam.) . For eachHons.paper (Theory) ,two class tests and for each Gen paper (Theory) one class test will be conducted.

It is compulsory for the first year students to attend at least 50% of the lectures held before the firstinternal assessment.

The performance of a student in Hons.subjectwould be judged at the end of 1st year on the basis ofinternal class tests taken in this period and attendance. In case of unsatisfactory performance, he/shemay be warned and dropped.

As per the order of Honb’le Supreme Court of India and the guide lines by UGC, our College has adoptedzero tolerance for ragging or any kind of campus violence and sexual harassment for women.

Additional Documents for Special Cases:

Monthly Income Certificate of parents from the competent authority (for example, Class-I gazette officer/employer) for Students seeking Concession/free studentship.

In case of break of study for a period not exceeding 2 years since the last exam passed and the date ofadmission, a certificate has to be produced from a respected person stating that the student was notadmitted to any other Institution in the intervening period and that his/ her moral conduct wassatisfactory.

Admission to Boys’ Hostel:The college provides limited accommodation at Boys’ Hostel inside college campus. Students intendingto stay at the hostel should apply separately in the prescribed form to be obtained from Office at thetime of admission.
