  • Our Philosophy

Welcoming children from aged 18 months to our Provision, East Thurrock Nursery and Out of School aims to provide a caring environment where children interact with other children and adults on what might be their first venture away from home. Stimulating play activities help them learn to make friends, take turns, share and negotiate, enabling them to develop their full potential. We feel that when children are relaxed, safe, valued and having fun builds their confidence and develop independence making them happier to learn and of course paving the way for their move onto primary school. Once your child has started school, we offer a full wrap around care facility. This includes breakfast , afterschool and holiday care. Care is provided from our spaciously designed rooms within Stanford Le Hope Children's Centre. I hope this guide provides all the information you require, but if you have any queries or wish to make an appointment to view our facilities, please contact me on 01375 643683 during the office hours of 8.00am-5.00pm. We welcome visits any day, so please call to arrange a time.

  • Nursery

Admissions Children are eligible to attend the Nursery once they are 18 months old. We recommend that children attend a minimum of two sessions per week. Further information regarding our admissions procedure can be found in our Admission policy.

Hours The Nursery is open from 7.00am-6.45 for full day care. Sessional care is offered term time only with the morning session 8.45am-11.45am, Lunch Club 11.45am-12.15pm and the afternoon 12.15pm-3.15pm (these sessions can be linked). Children attending Lunch Club bring their own packed lunch and are supervised throughout the lunch time period.

Key Person When a child begins Nursery they will be allocated a key person. This means that each member of staff has a special responsibility for a small group of children. This helps to ensure that in a large group, each individual child’s needs are met. We operate a shared caring approach, where an experienced and junior member of staff, share the responsibilities. The key person is a useful point of contact for parents. Individual records are kept by the key person. These are confidential and parent’s input is welcome.

Settling in Starting Nursery is obviously a big step in a child’s life and the way in which a child respond will vary. Some feel at home immediately, whereas others it may take some time until they feel comfortable. We therefore encourage parents and carers to stay with their child, if necessary, until they feel confident in their new environment.

Parent Helpers We acknowledge the invaluable contribution parents can make. So if you have time to help, please let us know. Not only does this help staff in a practical way, it allows a familiarity with Nursery, with the other children, and with the facilities way, so that Nursery becomes a shared experience, encouraging a sense of belonging and community atmosphere.

Arrival and collection of children Doors open for the sessional care at 8.45am and until then parents and children are able to wait under a canopied area, by the main doors. When collecting your child at the end of their session, parents are requested to wait by the main doors, and then each child is passed out individually. If anyone other than previously authorized persons are to collect your child, then we need to be informed either in writing or in an emergency by phone, where a password will be issued by the office. If permission to realise your child has not been arranged, then the Nursery cannot legally release the child into someone else’s care.

Positive Behaviour Management Staff, volunteers and students use positive strategies for handling any inconsiderate behaviour, by helping children find solutions in ways which are appropriate for the children’s ages and stages of development. Such solutions might include, negotiation, intervention, diversion and distraction. Our full Behaviour policy is available upon request.

    6 Jul-11

  • Fees

The fees are £9.00 per morning or afternoon session and £1.50 for lunch club. Additional hours are charged at £3.00 per hour. Parents are billed at the beginning of each half term. If half termly billing presents a problem then please ask to speak to the supervisor to discuss alternative arrangements. There can be no refunds or reductions if your child is sick or on holiday; this is to keep your child’s place at Nursery secure There is Government funding available for all three and four year olds, from the term after the child’s third birthday. The funding covers up to 3 hours of Nursery care, 5 times a week. Extra sessions and Lunch clubs are available but are charged at the above prices. We are unable to “swap” sessions on a random basis although we try to accommodate any extra sessions required. They will be charged at the full amount. We require two weeks written notification if you wish to withdraw a child from one or more sessions, otherwise you will remain liable to pay the fees. (Non payment of fees after four weeks may result in the child’s place being suspended.)

    Health

In cases of sickness, diarrhoea or infection please do not return your child to Nursery until 48 hours after the end of the illness. If a child becomes unwell in Nursery, they will be supervised in a quite area until arrangements can be made to go home.

    Medicines

If you child requires any medication whilst at Nursery, we would need you to complete a medication form stating, name of medicine, dosage, time to be given and your signature before we can administer it. Children that require emergency medicine to be kept on the premises, such as Asthma pumps, must have their form completed and held on file for when necessary. For life saving medications, such as Epipens, additional procedure are needed, and we ask that you discuss this with your room leader or a member of the management team.

    Clothing

Children wear aprons when necessary for messy play but accidents do occur, so it is better not to send children in their best clothes. Please could you provide a coat in cold weather, and whenever necessary provide a sun hat and apply sun cream. All clothing should be clearly marked with your child’s name.

    Jewellery

In the interests of safety, we request that you child wears as little jewellery as possible.

    Education

The Nursery follows the Government Early Years foundation Stage curriculum. Through both adult and child led activities, we aim to ensure that all children meet their full potential.

    Links with School

During the half term prior to your child starting school, we endeavour to invite their teacher to Nursery. We have good links with local schools and feel that this helps to ensure a smooth transition from Nursery to primary school
