Proverbs 14:20 The poor (destitute) is hated even of his own neighbor: but the rich hath many friends. 21 He that despiseth his neighbor sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy (blessed) is he.
20 Even his own neighbors despise the poor man, while the rich have many "friends." But to despise the poor is to sin. Blessed are those who help them. (TLB)
The first half of this verse is speaking of how it is with most people in this world;
Certainly not how it should be.

"Nobody knows You When You're Down And Out"
Once I lived the life of a millionaire,Spent all my money, I just did not care.Took all my friends out for a good time,
Bought bootleg whiskey, champagne and wine.
Then I began to fall so low,Lost all my good friends, I had nowhere to go.
I get my hands on a dollar again,I'm gonna hang on to it till that eagle grins.
5
'Cause no, no, nobody knows youWhen you're down and out.
In your pocket, not one penny,And as for friends, you don't have any.
When you finally get back up on your feet again,Everybody wants to be your old long-lost friend.
Said it's mighty strange, without a doubt,Nobody knows you when you're down and out.
This is the way of the world.

God expects better of His children.
Proverbs 28 6 Better a poor man whose walk is blame-less than a rich man whose ways are perverse. (NIV)
James 2 1 My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. 2 For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;
God does not despise the destitute; neither should we.

3 And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool: 4 Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts? 5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the Kingdom which He hath promised to them that love Him?God’s Mindset
God loves both rich and poor, if they love Him.

1 Samuel 16 7 … man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.
We must become more like our Heavenly Father.
Look at them the same!

22a Do they not err that devise evil?
Those who devise (plot) evil will see their plans go astray in the long run.
They are expecting to enjoy the fruits of their plotting, but will, in the end, suffer loss.
They will be judged and cast into hell when they die.
10
22b but mercy and truth shall be to them that devise good.
God will see to it.
When we do good and do it God’s Way, blessing will be the
result.

23 In all labor there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury (poverty).
We could talk and plan forever, but until we work the plan we reap no benefit.
Work at whatever you can find to do.

Colossians 3 22 Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God: 23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; 24 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.
