Proverbs 18:17 He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbor cometh and searcheth him.

(TLB) 17 Any story sounds true until someone tells the other side and sets the record straight.

We need to hear both sides of any conflict before we agree with either one. DVT

18 The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.

In Bible days lots of things were decided by lot.

They prayed and accepted the lot as God’s choice.

19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.

We should be cautious with our words; it is

better to avoid offense when we can.

20 A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

These two proverbs work together.

Our words can be as satisfying as a good meal, but they can also do tremendous harm.

Romans 10 8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the Word of faith, which we preach; 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Eternal life

1 Timothy 6:12 (NIV) Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

We can use our words to confess Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and receive salvation.

Eternal life!

James 3 8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

Let us use our words for good.

10

We can use our words to encourage, or we can use our words to put down.

Get rid of hateful

language.

11

Encouraging words can also be written in

a card or a note.

Use words for good.

We can even encourage ourselves.I can do all things through

Christ Who strengthens me.

Philippians 4:13

Philippians 4 11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

My Lord will never forsake me. Hebrews 13:5
