Proverbs 23:9 Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.

Some people are determined to be wrong.

“I did it my way.”

10 Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless: 11 For their redeemer is mighty; He shall plead their cause with thee.

Some people do move property lines in the attempt to steal some land;

Especially if they are dealing with the weak and helpless -- like orphans.

God will be their Protector.

12 Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.

Most people don’t really want to learn.

They are content in their ignorance.

But God says we should listen and learn.

Leviticus 26 14 But if ye will not hearken unto Me, and will not do all these Commandments; 15 And if ye shall despise My Statutes, or if your soul abhor My Judgments, so that ye will not do all My Commandments, but that ye break My Covenant: 16 I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. 17 And I will set my face against you, and ye shall be slain before your enemies: they that hate you shall reign over you; and ye shall flee when none pursueth you.

The refusal to listen, learn, and walk accordingly, has serious consequences.

It may be the result of simply being hard-headed.

13 Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. 14 Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.

Rod = shaybet =

to branch off.

Children learn best from good examples.

1 Peter 5:1-3 (NIV) To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder, a witness of Christ's sufferings and one who also will share in the glory to be revealed: Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, serving as overseers -- not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.
