Summer Issue 2018
The flooring replacement and tub room upgrade projects made
summer months more interesting for Elders and staff of the Juneau
Pioneer Home. After several months, we are pleased to announce
that the flooring project and the tub room upgrades are now com-
plete. Thanks to the JPH Elders and staff for their flexibility, pa-
tience, and energy during all the temporary moves during these pro-
jects. A huge thanks to all who made these projects possible.
Summer months also made this year’s outdoor activities more exciting for the El-
ders from whale watching, cruising to town, visiting the new whale statue, picnics
out in the parking lot, planting and harvesting potatoes, green peas, and carrots.
In addition to regularly scheduled activities, the Elders attended Senior Prom, JPH
Carnival, and Twin Day. Mocha-To-Go is our newest offering twice a month.
September marks the beginning of another school for the Tlingit and Haida Salm-
on Creek Head Start program at the Juneau Pioneer Home. The children are back
four times a week, and are bringing smiles to many of the Elders. Speaking of chil-
dren, soon another baby will be added to the JPH Family – our very own Michelle
Domingo is now on maternity leave awaiting birth of her baby girl.
Maria De Guzman, a long-time CNA in Waterside neighborhood, is retiring after
almost 26 years. Her last day with the JPH is September 30. Please join me in
wishing Maria well in this exciting and new chapter in her life.
I would like to end by sharing one of my favorite quotes “Shine like lights in the
world, as you hold on to the word of life”. Have a wonderful day, everyone!

STAFF CORNER
HAPPY RETIREMENT MARIA!
—STAFF PROFILE—
Pantaleon (Panting) Tudtud has been working in JPH Food Service since it opened in July, 1988.
At 80 years old, Panting has no plans on retiring. He claims he owe his youthful self by keeping a full-time job and keeping busy at home where he enjoys cleaning, cooking , gardening and dancing.
Panting is loved by all for his charming and jolly personality. He is always ready to help and always have a smile that lights up a room. Phyllis has this to say, “He is funny, generous spirit and he is always eager to please you”. We agree!
Almost 26 years of service
