Spring is on the Way! Camp will start sooner than we think
We have lots of information for you
Welcome Home Saturday is FREE! You and your scouts can start your
exciting week early. All units are welcome to arrive at
camp on Saturday, anytime after 2:00 pm. When you
arrive, check in at the camp office with your completed
roster.
Early arrival gives everyone a chance to get their
campsite set-up and running with less stress. It gives
scouts a chance to explore and “get the lay of the land” by
taking a buddy and seeing where areas of camp are lo-
cated. It also gives your scouts to get started on building
a gateway into your campsite.
We also have a plan for dinner. You can get a coupon
for Dee’s Pizza Pad in the office. The coupon gets you a
10% discount. Dee’s will deliver right to your campsite
or you can pick it up or you can take everyone in to the
restaurant, just be sure to call ahead a couple hours ear-
ly so they have room for your group. If you would rather
stay in camp at meal time, you should contact the com-
missary so they can get you the food together for you (for
an additional charge).
Between about 4:00 and 6:00 pm. if you have not done
swim checks, the aquatics staff will be available to ad-
minister the swim checks early (times may change de-
pending on conditions). It makes the Sunday camp tour
go more smoothly.
Camp Director Greeting
Greetings fellow leaders,
This is an exciting time, trees are
leafing out, the grass is green and
temps are warming. It's almost
time for camp, 8 weeks but who's
counting right?
Final payments are coming due
now and our important MIX FIX is
coming up Saturday May 18th. Please plan to join us
because we need your help to rescue the camp from
winter and get it ready for summer camp. There’s
lots going on. You can help. We are in real need of
cases of copier paper and printer ink cartridges, and
please check with Linda for type, I would really ap-
preciate your help.
I would also ask each of you to make sure every
Scout, Webelos, Venturer and new female Scouts BSA
is registered for camp, we are significantly down in
campers this year.
Please call me if I can help you in any way.
Don’t forget our high adventure programs and many
weekend opportunities.
With much appreciation for all you do,
Gus Chutorash
Camp Director

Cole is a walking
camp. We ask
that you only
drive when it is
absolutely neces-
sary. Scouts do
not need to be
driven from place
to place in camp.
The camp speed
limit is 5 miles
p e r h o u r .
Please drive only
on hard surfaces.
Units are respon-
sible for their
visitors to make sure they have registered with the
Camp Office and to Park in spots assigned by the
Commissioners. These regulations are in place for the
safety of everyone in camp.
Each Campsite will be given permits for THREE park-
ing spots in the main parking lot. These spots will be
assigned by the Commissioners. If your Unit requires
more than the three assigned spots please contact Rick
Wallner, Head Camp Commissioner or a member of
the Commissioner staff. There is plenty of parking
available at our offsite parking area.
Units camping in the Rifle River and Bridgeview
campsites will be given special instructions as to
where they are to park. Units staying at either
White Pines or Tall Pines Campsites will be park-
ing in the designated parking area just outside the
campsites. Because they drive to the commissary to
pick up food, these two Campsites will each have one
parking spot in the main parking lot designated just
for them. Several spots in the White Pines/Tall Pines
lots will be designated for Commissioner Parking
only.
While you are in camp, please park ONLY in your des-
ignated spot and not on Grass Areas outside the Park-
ing Lots or along the road.
All Trailers will be kept in your campsite with one ve-
hicle attached to it. Those vehicles attached to the
trailers are not to be used to drive thru or out of Camp.
VEHICLES ARE NEVER TO BE DRIVEN DOWN
THE HILLS AT ARCHERY OR AQUATICS. The only
exception is for Rifle River and Bridgeview campsites
and they will be given instructions on their limita-
tions. Units staying in the High Banks campsites may
drive down to the campsite to unload gear when arriv-
ing in camp but not to drive into the Aquatics area or
at other times during the week.
If the weather or ground conditions warrant it, there
may be times when vehicles other than the one towing
the trailer will NOT be allowed to drive to the
campsites on arrival or departure. If this occurs, we
will do our best to help you transport your gear to or
from your campsite with Golf Carts and or Camp vehi-
cles.
Please work with us and we will help you in whatever
you need.
The Commissioner Staff thanks you for your coopera-
tion and patience.
PARKING AND DRIVING REGULATIONS ALL PARKING IN CAMP IS BY PERMIT AND ASSIGNED TO DESIGNATED SPOTS
GOLF CART RENTALS: Cole Canoe Base will

the past.

tional charge if you
pick up your cart on
Saturday. If you arrive
in camp on Saturday
and would like your golf cart contact Rick Wallner in
the Camp office to sign your contract and obtain your

but the owner must obey the Camp Rules and Regula-
tions and sign a Personal Golf Cart Contract.
The golf carts are available for those ADULTS who
are handicapped or disabled. Scouts are not allowed
to ride on the carts unless they have a medical reason
to be driven somewhere. If there are carts not being

BIKE SAFTEY AND RULES Cole is a walking camp unless you have a bike. Bikes are a
blessing and a curse. We have rules for bikes and bike rid-
ers so we can keep everyone safe while they’re at camp.
Not following these rules and regulations could result in
your bike being taken away.
Bikes must be ridden on hard surface roads ONLY and
never on woodchip areas, sawdust trails, grass, or walking
trails. Bike parking is only permitted in bike corals or des-
ignated parking areas. NO parking on driveways or roads.
All bikes should have kick stands as they are not permit-
ted to be leaned against fencing.
Helmets and closed toe shoes are a must for all riders both
youth and adults. Bikers must obtain a bike license from
the Outdoor Skills staff.
While you’re just riding at a regular pace a bike goes 10
miles an hour or more. 5 MPH is the speed limit at Cole
Canoe Base. Bikes should be walked in the campsites.
The roads and parking lot are busy places. Bikers MUST
NOT ride between vehicles in the parking areas as darting
between them is very dangerous and could result in injury
or damaged vehicles.
Gravel on the roads is loose and it’s easy to fall with your
bike on gravel. NO bikes are to be taken down the hills at
Aquatics or Archery. Both roads have gravel and the ar-
chery range is right next to the road and we don’t want any
stray arrows headed your way. Park your bike in designat-
ed areas and walk down. Riders who need to take their
bikes to Rifle River, Bridgeview, Shotgun, Paintball, White
Pines, or Tall Pines must WALK
their bike down the trail behind
Archery.
Bikes are not allowed to be ridden
between 9:00PM and 8:00AM un-
less equipped with front and back
lights. Reflectors are not accepted
as lighting.
All bikes need to have a bike license. They are available at
the Program Expo on Sunday evening.
Please observe these rules so everyone stays safe and we
can all enjoy camp.
Order of the Arrow Callouts Do you have members of your troop who were elected this year to join
Scouting’s service corps? Are you looking for a fun way to honor the mem-
bers of your unit who have been chosen by their peers that exemplify the
high ideals of scouting? Friday Night at camp we always start our closing
campfire with a ceremony provided by the OA. During that ceremony
there is an opportunity for those who have been called out to be recog-
nized. If your unit is interested, please provide the commissioner staff a
list of the candidates who were elected before lunch on Fridays.

A Message From Aquatics
Hello everyone!
My name is Gloria Cabadas, I’m super excited to be the
Aquatics Director this summer at Cole Canoe Base.
We will be having some changes to Aquatic’s Wednesday
afternoon and evening events.
Let’s start out with Snork Hike! Everyone’s favorite
splashtacular snorkeling event. Snork Hike time will be
changed from 7pm Wednesday night to Wednesday after-
noon at 3:45pm to 5:30pm. This change is to give every-
one more time to snorkel around Bosco Lake and to see
everything under the water more clearly in the sun.
Please make sure to arrive by 3:45pm to do your dive test
so you have lots of time to enjoy all the fun.
Our Wednesday evening event at 7pm we will be having
Evening Open Swim and Boating until 8:30pm. Come on
down and bring your buddies!
I can’t wait for this summer and I really look forward to
seeing you all at camp!
Thanks so much!
Gloria Cabadas

we will be hosting a Provisional 50 Miler on The Rifle
River, Week 5 of this summer (July 14th – 20th). This

must be at least 13 years old and be a “Swimmer”.
Scouts will spend 4 days paddling and camping along
the river’s banks. Food and equipment will be included,

Central Registry Clearance
EVERY adult leader 21 and over MUST have a Cen-
tral Registry Clearance when they get to camp. We
can no longer take the request at camp; it must be done
before hand. Per the State of Michigan, it is once and
done… I do have the database for all the BSA camps
in Michigan. If you need to check on someone please
send me by email [email protected] and I
will look them up for you.

Page Twelve From: Have the Best Week Ever at One of These Chill Summer Camps By Bryan Wendell Great Lakes Sailing Adventure Michigan Crossroads Council Mackinaw City, Michigan
For vessels more than 20 feet in length, like the one pictured, life jackets need not be worn when the qualified supervisor determines that it is prudent to abide by less restrictive regulations concerning the use and storage of life jackets. SET SAIL: Step aboard the Retriever, a sailboat that’s your home for a week of crisscrossing the northern Great Lakes. The 52-foot Retriever has room for up to 12 participants — usually 10 youth and two adults. LEARN ON THE JOB: No sailing experience? No problem. A seasoned sailor will teach you the basics of sail-boat handling, navigation and marine safety — plus the right way to cook, sleep and live on a boat.
