Proximity Detection
Homes for visually impaired
Difficult to navigate new spaces
Helpful if the house can notify users before they bump into objects
Kinect Technologies
Builds 3D models of the human skeleton
Easy to install
Could be used to identify new obstacles automatically
RFID Technology
RFID tagged carpet already installed
Detecting where on the carpet is fairly easy
Solution
Try to identify users paths through a home
If user’s path looks like it will intersect an object, warn user
Extra precaution around obstacles that are relatively short, and might normally be missed.
CULC Kiosk
New building on capus
Heavily used
Each floor has a slightly different layout
Floorplans
Currently there is a kiosk that shows the floorplan of every floor.
There is a directory that lists all the rooms in the building
Improvements
Make the floorplans interactive
Select a location, and kiosk draws a map
Additional options
Mobile- capable of being used for more active navigation in the building
Design to be modular, to be used in any building
