Important information about the river

Medellin

Medellin is bisected by the Medellin River,

this river has a length of 100 kilometers

from its source until it becomes the Porce

River. Since its birth in the height of San

Miguel to about 2,700 meters, until

renamed, receives water from tributaries

nearly 200 direct and through them to

more than 352 streams. This will set the

Medellin River Basin.

In El Alto de San Miguel was declared, in 1993, an ecological reserve by the municipality of Caldas. It is a veritable factory of water, forests have withstood the pressure from the coal industry and construction. It grows about 250 species of plants like yarumo, mountain cedar, oak, chagualo, sangreto, among others. Similarly, hundreds of animal species have their domicile in the Alto, several of them in a latent danger of extinction, such as the mountain kinkajou, Colombian or musureña cryprotis, the kinkajou, the settler bus (dymovis) , fox dog, anteater and black rabbit.

The city of Medellin is divided into two by the Medellin River,

this river is 100 kilometers from its source until it becomes the

Perce River. Since its birth in the alto de San Miguel to about

2,700 meters, until you change your name, it receives the

water about 200 direct tributaries and through them to more

than 352 creeks. The Medellin River basin is configured in this
