PSA Assignment & PerformancePublic Service Announcement

For this assignment, you will brainstorm ideas, come up with a concept, write, plan, and shoot a Public Service Announcement (PSA) that focuses on your issue. You should work in crews to help each other as you write, produce, and direct a PSA. Use the guidelines below. THIS IS A SKIT performance. So, you will write a script and perform it!

Media messages are fleeting. One compelling central message, clearly presented with a simple call to action, is the most effective way to get your point across.

Answer the following questions to begin:

1. Target Audience: Who do I want to reach with my message?

2. Message: What is my message? What do I want the viewer to understand?

3. Action Step: What is the call to action? What do I want the viewer to do? How can the viewer help solve the problem?

4. Significance of Issue to the Public: Why is this issue important to the public?

1.Turn in a written description of the PSA, answering questions 1-4, plus any other information and research about the issue, or the population the PSA addresses or serves.

2. Write a script out for your PSA, and have background images for your PSA. This is similar to a Ted-Talk but can be more like a commerical than a Ted-Talk.

3. There should be an acting scene included in your skit PSA.

4. must include one of the rhetorical appeals and all information from your part one.

5. Your performance should be no longer than 5-Minutes.

6. You can record this before hand but you must do this on your own class time.

7. You must dress the part for your PSA, you should not have to change in the middle of the sceen. You should also cast other people to help you with this if you need to complete this.

8. Research should be clearly presented with this, and a Works Cited document should be turned in with your PSA.

NOTE: Sample PSAs can be found on the teacher’s blog as well.
