Psalm 34:14 Turn away from evil! Do good! Seek peace and go after it!

We Are in Ordinary Time There's Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, and all kinds of special occasions and seasons. The time between is called Ordinary Time. This doesn't mean that it's unimportant. But it does mean God ordains the days, that is, God brings order to our steps.

11:00 A.M. WORSHIP SERVICE

Worship on Sunday morning differs from the Sunday night service in several important ways. The Processional is an important visual representation of the theme. The bulletin serves as the common guide for the flow of the service opposed to a screen for detailing liturgy. We make use of the Celebration Hymnal, primarily, as well as music from other sources. While leadership for the service is done principally through the pastor and choir, the responsibility of interpreting God’s Word is shared by all. But for all the differences, one thing that is the same between the services is the good of glorifying God.

PROCESSIONAL, PRELUDE & CANDLELIGHTING

WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS

INTROIT “Jesus Loves The Little Children”

*CALL TO WORSHIP (based on Matthew 10:13-16)

God calls to us from all that would distract us from our common task: to worship. Let us draw our hearts and minds together for the true audience in this moment: God.

Leader: People were bringing children to Jesus so that he would bless them. But the disciples scolded them.

People: When Jesus saw this, he grew angry and said to them, “Allow the children to come to me. Don’t

forbid them, because God’s kingdom belongs to people like these children.”

Leader: I assure you that whoever doesn’t welcome God’s kingdom like a child will never enter it.

People: Then he hugged the children and blessed them. Perhaps we should do that as well.

*HYMN OF PRAISE #370 “Rejoice, the Lord is King”

*CALL TO CONFESSION We confess our sins because we should. God forgives because God chooses. Let us live into God’s mercy and confess our sins together. Let us pray the Prayer written before you. *PRAYER OF CONFESSION Dear God, teach us child-like faith. Teach us to let go of all the distractions, all the priorities, all of the noise, that gets in the way of us praying to you, speaking about you, dancing for you, singing for you, laughing with you, and even playing with you. Teach us that we yet have more to learn about being the heroes you mean for us to be. In the great name of Jesus Christ, we pray this together… *SILENT PRAYER

ORDINARY TIME •VBS

Psalm 34:14 Verse used as the theme for our VBS, it is a call to action to our faith. 1 Samuel 16:1-12 The anointing of David as king was both an act of treason and an act of faith. 1 Samuel 25 Abigail emerges as the cooler head in this episode of spiteful men. Luke 2:41-52 Jesus causes both marvel and panic, questions and more questions in this Temple episode.

*ASSURANCE OF GRACE Leader: God determined that we should become Children of God.

The Spirit of God is still changing hearts and fashioning the world. My brothers and sisters in Christ, believe the good news of the Gospel

People: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven! Leader: The peace of Christ be with you. People: And also with you. Leader: The peace of the Christ be with us all! People: Amen! *SUNG RESPONSE “Praise Him, All Ye Little Children” #188 (v. 3) Thank Him, thank Him, All ye little children, God is love, God is love; (repeat) PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION The reason is simple: to understand God’s Word, then we need God’s help and so we pray: God, you have given us eyes to see, and ears to hear your word. Let us now see and hear the scriptures written before us and open our hearts to understand the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Amen

SERVICE OF WORSHIP

Sunday, June 25, 2017 6:00 p.m.

The Hawfields Alive! Worship service takes place in the Fellowship Hall. While a bit more experimental, this service is rooted in Scripture and the idea that God is relevant now more than ever! Use of multimedia and songs from multiple sources, skits and other ways of worshipping and learning about God are big parts of this tradition now in its 16th year!

This is my Father’s world, The battle is not done; Jesus, who died, shall be satisfied, And earth and heav’n be one.
