What is Dual Credit Exactly?

The Dual Credit Program allows a student to enroll at San Antonio College (SAC) to earn college level credit while at the same time fulfilling high school academic requirements.

Dual Credit classes are full year courses. Students can take any dual credit class that they qualify for.

Why Do I want to be in Dual Credit?

Earns you college credit

Saves your parents $$$

Challenging course work prepares you for the rigor of college work!!

Looks great on transcript when applying to college. (If you make good grades!!)

“What is the difference between Advanced Placement (AP) and Dual Credit?”

+ Once you pass the DC class,

you will have a college

transcript with grades to

provide the university you will

attend

+ Most colleges will accept the

college transcript, but the

colleges decide what credit you

will earn (Ex. Biology AP may

be awarded a science elective

credit instead of biology credit)

+ DC costs nothing except the

testing fee of the TSI exam

+ DC classes require students to

+ AP Statistics 4 hours college credit, 1.29 rank multiplier

+ College Algebra 4 hours college credit, 1.15 rank multiplier

+ AP Biology 8 hours college credit, 1.29 rank multiplier

+ Sign Language III / IV 6 hours college credit, 1.15 rank multiplier

Timeline:+ November – Counselors visited classes to discuss DC

+ Jan. 10 – Dual Credit/PSAT Parent Meeting

+ Jan. 26 – TSI Testing at 8:00am at MAC

+ February 15 – Deadline to complete online application at www.Alamo.edu/AlamoENROLL (Use the ApplyTexasDual Credit Handbook.)

+ Feb. 23 - TSI Testing at 8:00am at MAC

+ Mar. 23 - TSI Testing at 8:00am at MAC

+ March 8 – Deadline to submit pages 5-8 from the Academic Dual Credit Handbook to Mrs. Reyes or Ms. Sebastian in the counseling office.

What is ACES?ACES is your SAC account that maintains your grades

and courses

Just like you log into your student portal, you should log

into your ACES account numerous times a semester

You will be required to log into your ACES account to

complete your GoFAARR and Pre-Assessment Test

Preparation (PAA) modules before TSI testing

You will be asked to log into your ACES account in

August to check that you are registered for the correct

Students Currently in DC+ If you are currently in a Dual Credit, complete and turn in pages 5-8 (in the Academic DC Handbook) to sign up for AP English IV. You can get your Banner ID from your ACES account or Dual Credit teacher.

+ If you want to take AP Biology, AP Stat’s, College Algebra or Sign Language III or IV, check your SAT, ACT or TSI scores to ensure eligibility. See handout.

Current Dual

Credit Students

• If the only DC course you took

this year is College Algebra, you

will need to completely start

over again as a new student.

All DC Math students are currently in

DC US History this year.

+ Apply online: Following directions from the ApplyTexas Handbook.

+ View the GoFAARR module through ACES account

+ Check scores to see if you need to take the TSI test or if you are exempt.

+ If not exempt, complete the Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA) through ACES account

Students New to Dual Credit

TSI (Texas Success Initiative) Test

+ TSI is a 4-6 hour test over Reading, Math and Writing.

+ Students not in Dual Credit must take the TSI Test (unless they have another qualifying score through SAT or ACT).

+ Test is $20.

+ Students needing to retake a section will be charged $7 per section.

TSI (Texas Success Initiative) Test

•Jan. 26, Feb. 23, March 23 & April 6: (8:00 a.m.) at MAC

•Student should sign up in the counseling office by the Thursday before the test date.

•Registration form is in the Counseling Office

•Any student who does not meet required scores can retest one or all sections on another test date above

•Students need a picture ID the morning of testing.

Registering for the TSI test

In order to register to take the TSI test, you MUST have completed the following steps:

+ Students must complete the TSI Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA) as well as the GoFAARR provided by Alamo Colleges. (Students must print a copy of the screen as proof of completion.)

+ Provide student ID# and Banner ID#

+ Submit payment prior to test day ($20 for entire test; $7 per section)

+ Provide a copy of the screen as proof of PAA and GoFAARR completion.
