Chromebook Basics: Layout, Power, Volume, Wifi, Safe CareNext we will demonstrate how to open the Chromebook safely. Place one hand on the top of the lid with your fingers near the middle of the screen. Place your other hand into the area that has a slight cut out and use that area as a place to steady the base of the Chromebook. Once you have your other hand placed firmly, lift the lid with your first hand.

You can also watch this short video for a video demonstration. The process for both models of Chromebooks is the same going forward.

The first time you turn on your Chromebook, you will be prompted to connect to the network before doing anything else. You should see a screen similar to the right photo, showing Network not available, with a list of available Wireless networks.

If you do not see your network on top, use 2 fingers on the trackpad to scroll down until you see your wireless network. Select your network and a new window should pop up.

When you are finished with your Chromebook, it is good practice to shut it down properly. You can do this by opening the Menu and Settings area in the bottom right, and selecting the button that looks just like the physical "Power On" button on your keyboard. The Chromebook will then shut down after a few seconds. Close the lid by using a light grip with both hands on the corners of the screen. Once it is closed, carry it with the hinge side in your hand, or with 2 hands, one on each side of the Chromebook. More photos on the next slide.
