What did I do?

• Designed a Movie Making Project (MMP). - Based on Lesson 12 A Small Soccer Match in our textbook. - With the aim of fostering purposeful language use.

• Encouraged each student to produce a short film of our class soccer match, with Chinese commentary and English subtitles. - Involving connections across texts and contexts, interaction with others, and negotiation of a meeting point between two cultures.

• Assessed each completed movie and provided comprehensible and accurate feedback.

• MMP did encourage my students to take responsibility for their own learning.

• MMP did involve the stages of awareness-raising, experimentation, production and feedback.

• MMP did inspire me to further explore the magic power of ICT as a stimulating

tool for intercultural Chinese language learning.

Connection to the Profession Standards

Language pedagogy - Technology for language learning and communication

The success of MMP has proved that,

• ‘ICT has the potential to change the way children learn language, learn about language and learn to use language; as well as the potential to actually construct the learning that children experience’ (PSP 2008 Module 5, p24).

• By creating ICT learning opportunities, I can ‘identify and connect with students’ life worlds to enhance their meaningful engagement with language learning’ (PSP 2008 Module 5, p24).
