Microsoft Word - Pspice.docPart 1: Drawing Components
This will open the schematic window. You will be able to draw your circuit in this
window and perform various simulations. We will show the step by step graphical
instructions to draw and simulate the simple diode circuitry shown in Fig1.1 of your Lab1
handout.
To find the component that you need in your circuit, you type the name of that
component in section called: part name (on the top left corner of the window Part
Browser Basic)
For example by typing D, you can find diode family. Figure below shows the picture.
Drag the D1N4002 and drop it in the window (You can rotate the component by using
CTRI+R).
You can find other components by typing short abbreviations below:
DC power supply: VDC
Resistor: R
Ground: GND
Now you can connect various components in the circuit by using Draw Wire Icon in
figure below.
Figure below shows the complete circuit drawn:
You can change the value of a component by click on it. For example to change resistor
R1 value click on 1k on figure above. A window opens that allows you to change
component value, figure below shows the procedure.
Part 2: Simulation
You have the option to do different types of analysis ( DC sweep, AC simulation and
transient simulation) on your circuit. Here we try to show you the procedure to set up the
DC sweep. We try to sweep the DC power supply value from 0 to 6 (component V1 in
the circuit that you drew before).
Go to: Analysis/setup
Click on DC sweep on figure above. This will open the below picture for you. It
allows you to sweep the variable that you want. Here we sweep DC power supply V1
from 0 to 6 with step 0.1
Save your schematic by going to: File/Save as
Now you are ready to simulate your circuit. Go to: Analysis/simulate, this will simulate
the circuit and the result opens in a new window. Figure below shows the result.
This figure shows the diode current versus the DC power supply (V1). We are interested
to graph the diode current versus diode voltage. To do that, we have to change the x-axis
to be the voltage across diode.
Go to : Plot and click on Axis Setting.
This will open the below window (axis setting window). Follow the procedure on the
picture to make the necessary changes to x-axis.
The new graph is shown in figure below. This is the Id(diode current) versus Vd(diode
voltage).
