Acknowledgement First of all, our members of the team would like to express our

deepest appreciation to all who have provided us possibility to

complete this task which takes a lot of efforts in the progress of the

project. In performing our assignment , we had to take the help and

guideline of some respected person, who deserves our greatest

gratitude. We would like to express our gratitude to our lecturer,

Mr.Shankar for his guidance throughout the semester.Without him ,

we would not have the opportunity to gain knowledge and understand

how human being’s behaviour were all along. On the other hand, we

also show our thanks to Taylor’s University for allowing us to film our

video around the campus premises. Besides, a big thanks to our

course mate , Loh Mun Tong who helped us to film the video scenes

while our camera man, Tham Kai Loon were not able to attend our

meeting. Lastly, we would like to thanks our own group mates for

giving effort and spend time to take part in this project. We also

appreciate the help and suggestion by our course mates even though

they are not in our group. Thanks for all the effort , time and

contribution given by everyone who helped out with our project.

Introduction This is our final assignment for Social Psychology, students were

required to demonstrate their understanding of learning throughout the

semester through these 3 components:

1. Social psychology Conceptual video clip

2. A report about the concept used

3. Presentation slide about the conceptual video

In a group of 4, students were required to produce a video clip which

consists of 5 concepts applied in one storyline. The 5 concepts should

come from the 10 chapters that students have learned in Social

Psychology module. This report should also consists a detailed

explanation of the concepts used.Lastly, students are required to

prepare a slides and present during the submission date. Students will

have to explain the concepts used in the storyline for the video clip.

Hence, Darren came out an idea of storyline regarding a architecture

student life which is quite related to us who are taking architecture

course. We try to relate back toward our Semester 1 experience as

close as possible to give a genuine feel and definition of the

psychology concept. After our second group discussion, we finally

came out a full storyline and started to prepare to film our video clip.

This project is quite challenging and interesting, it gave us the

opportunity to be directer and actor. Throughout this assignment, we

gained awareness of the importance of social psychology concepts in

our daily life. We gained our understanding on theories taught by

Mr.Shankar. We have to do intense research to ensure that we are

using the right concepts in the storyline.Last but not least, we also

improved our communication skills as we have to work as a team in

order to complete the task. Teamwork is the key to complete group

assignment.

Procedure Briefing

We discussed on the main theme that we are going to use. The 5 most suitable social psychology concepts are selected and a suitable storyline is plotted and drafted. Furthermore, we refined the storyline even further for the best possible outcome of our video.

Role Delegation

We delegated the tasks of each member accordingly. We made sure that everyone has a chance to contribute and voice out. The whole experience working with one another is very satisfying as we bonded well as a group and criticism is positively accepted.

Video Filming

We recorded the all scenes in a day after thoughtful and detailed planning to our scenes, thus saving us time and making us more efficient. We wanted to make sure that everything is shot is one take so that the scene feels fresh and genuine.

The filming process was executed brilliantly as the pre-filming briefings and discussions helped everyone understand what they’re supposed to do and when they’re supposed to do it. We also tried several new angles while filming certain scenes to create a nice video afterwards.

Name Overall Task Video Task

Leong Darren Video and Audio Editor Protagonist

Kingsley Tham Kai Loon Videographer Lecturer

Tan Jia San Report and Slide Writer Protagonist’s Mum

Gillian Chong Yeong Lin Report and Slide Writer Course mate

Every group member was very cooperative and helpful as positive and reinforcement comments and suggestions were given throughout the whole process. The contributions from every member helped one another to become better in acting and filming. The environment of the scenes were just right and what we wanted during the course of our video filming.

Analysis, Tabulation, Presentation

We did proper research and observations to produce the report and also the slides. Google Docs were used for our report as it enabled every member to pitch in and help in each stage of the report.

For the presentation, we found a couple of dates and met up to do a run-through of the outline of the presentation together with the finalized presentation itself.

Discussion

For our video, 5 social psychology concepts were used. These concepts were then applied and used in our video through the entire storyline. The 5 concepts are Safety and Security, Extrinsic Motivation, Fear Based Appeal Persuasion, Stereotyping, and Self-Esteem.

The First concept is Safety and Security. Such things as finding safe circumstances, shelter, satiability, and protection. They may also include a need for structure and order.

The second concept is Extrinsic Motivation. Extrinsic motivation is when we take a certain action in response to external pressure or obligation. This might be done to avoid punishment or earn a specific reward. It can actually inhibit behaviours if used at the wrong time. Preferences for tasks that are intrinsically or extrinsically rewarded are influenced by culture. FNBE MARCH 2015 SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY PAGE 8

Page 10: Psycho report1

Fear Based Appeal Persuasion is the third concept. Negative valence that is elicited by a message designed to prevent a specific action. It is the most effective when trying to prevent a negative outcome.

The fourth concept is Stereotyping. Stereotyping a general belief about a group of people it differs from prejudice in that it can have positive or negative connotations. It runs the risk of becoming prejudicial and leading to discrimination.

Last but not least the five and final concept used is Self-Esteem. Self-esteem is one’s evaluation of one’s self-worth. It involves both your physical and psychological attributes. Although it is generally stable, but can fluctuate as human beings have an innate need to feel good about themselves.
