Small Cell
13
What
Why
Where
• A smaller base station with a small radio footprint ranges of 300 m to 500 mfor more effective data offloading in 3G & LTE
• Antenna’s height varies from 10 m to 15 m• Equipment type is microcell or picocell or in some cases distributed macrocells where baseband unit in one location and remote radio unit + antennaplaced in several different locations (C-RAN)
• More effective data offloading to customers• More efficient CAPEX for mobile operators • Easier in deployment and managing data traffic
• High density commercial area where more data capacity is needed andimpossible to put additional macro cell towers.
• High and medium class residentials replacing macro cell towers which isoften being rejected (aesthetic visual factor)
• Extreme dense residential where capacity is needed (more populated users)• Not suitable for rural and sub urban areas
