    Text 1

You have been asked to tell a story during your weekly English language society meeting.

You have written an interesting story which you would like to share with the members.

    Read the text aloud.

One hot Sunday afternoon, Hamid, a 10-year-old boy was walking past an

ice cream shop. He looked through the big window and saw many boys and girls

enjoying ice creams. Hamid entered the ice cream shop and sat at a table.

A waitress put a glass of water in front of him and handed him the menu.

Hamid pushed the menu aside. How much is an ice cream sundae? he asked the

waitress. Two ringgit, replied the waitress.

The little boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and counted the number of coins in his palm. How much is a scoop of plain ice cream? he enquired.

Some people were now waiting for a table and the waitress was a bit impatient. One ringgit and fifty sen, she said angrily.

The little boy again counted the coins. Ill have the plain ice cream, please, he said.

The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on the table and walked away. The boy finished the ice cream, paid the cashier and departed. When the waitress came back, she began wiping down the table and swallowed hard at what she saw. There, placed neatly beside the empty bowl, was fifty sen her tip.

Every morning, Johnny takes his flock of sheep to the fields to graze. He

would sit under a tree and watch the sheep lazily munch on the grass. After they

had eaten, he would round them up and walk home.

One day, Johnny saw a wolf at the edge of the field. However, it was some

distance away and it did not come nearer. Johnny at first stood guard against the

wolf and kept a strict watch over its movements.

But the wolf did not do anything. When Johnny herded the sheep and

walked home with his flock, the wolf quietly followed them at a distance.

This continued for a few days. Johnny would find the wolf waiting near the

    field every morning.

One day, in the middle of grazing his sheep, Johnny felt very hungry. I think

Ill leave my sheep here, go home and grab a quick meal. I dont think that wolf will

eat my sheep, he said to himself.

When he came back, what did he find? The wolf had eaten most of his

sheep. Johnny broke down in tears.

In shock, Johnny sat down under a huge shady tree. Serves me right, he

moaned to himself, Why was I so stupid to trust a wolf?

You and your cousins are spending the school holidays together. You chosed a story from

a book which you would like to share with them. Read the story aloud.

    NASKAH CALON TAMAT

It was a warm Saturday morning. Muthu woke up in a good mood. He was

going to the nursery with his father. As Muthu loved gardening, he enjoyed visiting

    Mr. Lees nursery.

Muthu could see from the parking lot that the flowers and shrubs at the

nursery were already in full bloom. Muthus father rubbed his hands together,

Lets go and do some shopping, he said. Muthu pushed the shopping cart while

his father piled things into it. They bought ferns, flowers and fertiliser.

Muthus father held up a birdhouse. Should we get this? he asked Muthu.

Muthu shook his head. Lets make our own, he said.

They also decided to buy trays of young tomato and eggplant. Are you sure

we should get tomato? Muthu asked his father. Remember how the snails ate it

    all last year?

His father sighed and nodded. Im going to spread sawdust this year. I heard

that it helps to keep the snails away.

Before paying, Muthu and his father spent some time walking around the

nursery looking at all the plants. After that, they drove home and spent the rest of

the day working in their garden. Muthu was tired when he went to bed, but he

was happy as the garden looked beautiful.
