HES will be having a book fair April 30th - May 5th ending with Spring Fling. Muffins with Mom will take place during this time so the children can shop with their moms that Friday. The theme is a tropical luau. If you would like to vol-unteer to be on the decorating committee or to help in any way, please contact Charity Tutor at 901-351-6899. The PTA is in need of a few more clean empty 2 liter coke bottles to be used as totem pole collection bins for coins in the classroom. If you can donate a clean empty bottle, send the bottle to the school and it will be placed in the PTA box for the book fair.

PTA Elections Nominations are being accepted for 2012-2013 PTA officers. If you are interested or know of someone that would be interested in a posi-tion and will have a student at HES next year, contact any of the cur-rent officers for more information. Elections will be held at the April 17th meeting.

The next Zaxby’s fundraising night is April 12th. Make plans to eat at Zaxby’s in Her-nando. 10% of everything sold at Zaxby’s that night goes to the HES PTA. Everything raised will go toward the purchase of new playground equipment.

CORRECTION: Last month’s newsletter stated that the Spring sub-mission was $149.90. That total should have been $1,499.00 for a total of $3,854.87 this school year! The deadline for the 2011-2012 contest is April 27th to count towards individual class parties and prizes. Awards will be given in early May. Keep clipping and shopping the marketplace at the boxtops for educa-tion website. If you need a new sheet to post your boxtops on, please re-quest one from your teacher or visit the PTA link on the HES website for a copy of the form. Zaxby’s night April 12th

Dear Parents, We are in the home stretch of the year. The children are suffering from Spring Fever. Please encourage your children to continue to pay atten-tion and to focus on the task at hand. I appreciate all the help we are getting from home with reading to and with the children. I encourage you to con-tinue to be involved with the children and reading. It is one of the most important things we as adults can model. We look forward to seeing you at the end of the year.

Spring Fling is set for Saturday, May 5th from 10 am - 2 pm. This is a fun day of activities for the community and the children of HES. Bracelets will be pre-sold for this event for $5 or purchased at the door for $7. The bracelet will allow your child to jump on the bounces, get a drink, popcorn and cotton candy. There will also be an interactive agricultural display where the kids can learn about farming in Mississippi. The kids will enjoy face painting, a book fair, a Chinese auc-tion, along with skate board, karate, gymnastics and step team demonstrations. The Chinese auction will be open Friday night from 5 pm - 8 am in the HES gym if you would like to bid on items early. Barbecue dinner plates will be for sale that Friday night only for $7 at the door or $6 pre-ordered by April 25th. If you or anyone you may know owns a business and would like to donate items for the Chinese auction, please contact Nikki McLarty at 901-409-1387. Deadline for donations in the Chi-nese auction will be May 1st. Tickets may be purchased for $1 or 20 for $25 to bid on any of the items at the auction either Friday night or during the Spring Fling. You may enter as many times as you would like. Drawings will be held for the auctioned items at the end of Spring Fling.
