P.T.A. Packet – August 2015

Dear Royalview Families, Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year! I am excited to share with you this PTA Packet which includes important information regarding Royalview PTA. What is a PTA? The PTA is a parent teacher advocacy group who strives to support the teamwork between students, teachers, families and school. Royalview PTA is part of the Lake County Council PTA, Ohio PTA and National PTA organizations. These organizations work in conjunction with each other to lead a voice for all children, to be a relevant resource for families and communities and to be a strong advocate for the education and well-being of every child. Royalview PTA The Royalview PTA consists of a board that is elected on a yearly basis and this year includes a (Parent) President, 3 (Parent) Vice Presidents, 4th VP/School Principal, 5th VP/Assistant Principal, Secretary and Treasurer. We also have various Committees for the different school events run by parent volunteers. Included in this packet is the full roster of the Board and Committee chairs, please feel free to contact them with any questions you may have. The Board and Committees have been working diligently to plan another great year and we can’t wait to share it with you! PTA Communication – Stay Connected with us all year long!

PTA Meetings: The PTA holds monthly meetings on the 1st Thursday of each month at 6:30pm starting in October. Our first meeting is Thursday, October 1. These meetings are an informative way for parents to stay connected to the school, learn about upcoming school/PTA/district news, activities and fundraisers, meet faculty members, learn about volunteer opportunities, and a place to have a voice and a vote. Monthly meeting dates are also listed in the PTA/School Calendar included in this packet.

Newsletter: A PTA monthly newsletter will be included with the school newsletter. This newsletter will keep you updated on what’s coming up, deadlines, fundraisers and more. Receive the newsletter by email by signing up for the school newsletter online at the school website (www.weschools.org). You can also download it from the PTA website at www.RoyalviewPTA.org. Hard copies of the newsletter can also be found at the front office in the magazine bins hanging on the wall.

PTA Membership – Join PTA & Receive a FREE ice cream from CP’s Cooler

Membership: Inside this packet you will find a PTA Membership form. Membership is so important to the school because without your support PTA could not provide the help, funds or resources to the students, teachers and school. Joining the PTA is a great way to get involved and volunteer, meet other families, and learn more about your student’s school life. Each year we hold our annual PTA Membership Drive and welcome anyone who wants to join, including parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, school faculty, neighbors, friends, businesses, or any other acquaintances. Membership can be obtained all year long and you must rejoin each school year to become a PTA member. Extra forms can be found on our website or the magazine racks by the front office.

Membership Drive Incentives & Contest: We have some great incentives for joining! o FREE ice cream from CP’s Cooler Ice Cream: Receive 1 token per family or individual

membership for a FREE ice cream. This is good all year long. o Entry into the Grand Prize: Return your membership form by Friday, September 18 and you

will be entered into the Grand Prize Contest. The prize will be announced at the 1st PTA meeting on October 1 and the winner selected. You do not need to be present to win.

o Monthly Contests: We will hold a monthly contest at the PTA meetings for those that attend. Keep an eye out for the monthly prize announcement in the newsletter!

Volunteer Opportunities: The PTA can not thrive unless it has great volunteers to help. We gladly accept help at many of our events. Volunteers can help as little or as much as they want and every little bit helps us immensely. Royalview is a large school and it takes many volunteers to service. Inside this packet you will find a Volunteer form listing the PTA events where volunteers are needed. If you are interested in volunteering, please fill the form out with your name and contact information and that committee chairperson will be in touch with you. We understand that many of these events are far into the calendar year and you may not know your schedule. No worries! A 2nd volunteer form will be sent home with your student as the event approaches (usually a month before). Depending on the event, you may be allowed to bring a younger sibling. It will be up to the discretion of the committee chair.

PTA Services & Fundraisers – We have many fun-filled events scheduled this year.

Pre-Paid Popcorn: Each year the PTA offers a monthly fun popcorn snack to the students and faculty. Inside this packet you will find a form (Pre-Paid Popcorn Form/Classroom Party Form) to pre-pay for your student’s popcorn snack for the whole school year. The cost is $3/student. If you do not want to pre-pay, you can still order by month by sending in 50 cents/per bag/per student. The popcorn will be delivered to your student on the listed days in the school calendar.

Holiday Parties: The PTA helps support two holiday parties, Halloween and Valentine’s Day. Inside this packet you will find a form (Pre-Paid Popcorn Form/Classroom Party Form) to help support the purchase of the party bags, drink and snack for each student. The cost is $3/student and includes both parties. We encourage 100% support so that we may continue this service to your children.

Fundraisers: We have two fundraisers planned for this year, the Walk-a-thon in October and Cookie Dough in January/February. Informational forms along with volunteer opportunities will be sent home with your student once the event gets closer. Fundraising is an important factor for the PTA as it allows us to help pay for things such as, field trip transportation, updated classroom technology, daily activities and more.

Events & Services: The PTA hosts many events throughout the school year including Skating Parties, Carnival, Holiday Extravaganza, Book Fair, Spring Flower Sale and new this year the Kids Resale Event. The PTA also offers other services including, college scholarships to former Royalview students, summer camp scholarships, health and safety related programs for children, day-to-day support and new this year the KidStuff Coupon book coming in November. Flyers will be sent home with students for these events as they approach.

PTA Resources – When you join the Royalview PTA you have access to great resources from the Lake County Council PTA, Ohio PTA (www.ohiopta.org), and National PTA (www.pta.org). Check out their websites for educational resources such as Common Core guidelines, government updates and more! Hello from the Popcorn & Party Committees! Pre-Paid Popcorn Money Royalview PTA offers pre-paid popcorn to all Royalview families. Please fill out the form below if you would like your child/children to receive monthly popcorn. If you are not interested in pre-paying for the popcorn you can still send in .50 cents with your child on the dates indicated and they will still receive popcorn that day. VOLUNTEER FORM

Hello from the Volunteer Committee! Below you will find many opportunities to volunteer at the school’s activities. Volunteering is a great way to stay connected to your child’s school life as well as it allows the PTA to offer such great services and events. PTA gladly welcomes your volunteer time, as little or as much as you want. If you are interested in helping please fill out the form below, mark which activity you are interested in and send back to school. This list includes the entire school year’s activities and we know many people may not be able to plan that far in advance. No worries! A 2

Room parents help at the 2 parties held in the classroom. They will receive party bags before the party and will need to fill them with the treats that students bring in. This can be done at home prior to the party. Other help will be at teacher’s discretion.

PTA pops popcorn once a month on selected Friday mornings. We need volunteers to help pop the popcorn, stuff bags, distribute bags to classrooms, and clean up. Start time is between 8:30-9:00 and ends before 12. Small children are welcome. See school calendar for dates.

Holiday Craft Extravaganza Volunteers are needed to help with set-up, vendor check in, raffle table, volunteer table, and tear down.

Book Fair Set-Up Volunteers are needed to set up tables and unpack books in the library. All books need to be stacked according to title.

Book Fair Volunteers are needed to help the children pick out books according to their grade level and amount of money allotted by parents. This is a week-long event and any time you can give will be greatly appreciated.
