AIR AMBULANCE TEXTILE RECYCLING BANKS

Have you noticed the additionof two distinctive bright yellowtextile recycling banks at LoveLane car park and PetersfieldHeath and Pond car park onSussex Road? These bankshave been placed to help raisevital funds for one of our pop-ular local charities, Hampshireand Isle of Wight AirAmbulance (HIOWAA).

The Air Ambulance receives no government or national lotteryfunding and relies solely on donations and schemes, such astextile recycling, to keep them flying.

Minutes really do matter and within 4 minutes of receiving theemergency call the helicopter can be airborne, on its way toprovide life-saving medical support to the most acute cases.Since the Air Ambulance was launched on 1 July 2007 it hasundertaken over 5500 missions, for the benefit of the peopleof Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and in order to keep flyingand saving lives it needs to raise in excess of £125,000 a month, over £4000 every day.

Chief Executive of the charity Alex Lochrane said “We aredelighted by Petersfield Town Council’s generous decision tosupport our recycling scheme by providing two new sites”.Petersfield Town Mayor Sue Harwood added “This is an easyaffordable and eco-friendly way to make a contribution”.

PETERSFIELD NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN

The Neighbourhood Plan is now entering the final phases of itswork. Following the pre-submission consultation conducted bythe Town Council last summer on the draft Plan document, allof the responses received have now been carefully considered.Where the Neighbourhood Plan group agreed with therepresentations made, the draft Plan has been amended andwhere the group disagreed, reasons why have been given.

At its meeting in December, the Councilapproved the revised DraftNeighbourhood Plan and it has nowbeen submitted to the South DownsNational Park Planning Authority fortheir consideration. The National ParkAuthority will undertake a further con-

sultation with the community on the Draft Plan so residentsstill have a further opportunity to comment on the Plan beforeit is approved.

It is expected that the Government Inspector who will inspectthe Draft Plan will be appointed in the near future and it ishoped that the Inspection will take place during February.Following this it is anticipated that the Plan will then beapproved by the Town Council and the referendum held duringJune. The referendum cannot be held earlier than this becauseof the Local and General Elections being held in May and thedifficulties that this would cause for the Electoral Authority. Itis planned to hold a Public Awareness Event prior to theReferendum so that everyone is aware of what theNeighbourhood Plan contains prior to them casting their vote.

ARTSCAPE

Artscape is a unique, arts based charitythat works alongside vulnerable anddisabled adults in recovery from longand enduring mental ill health, addictions and related disabilities. Wework in a unique way using art as acatalyst for enabling healing to begin to take place. We are notart therapists, but use the art itself as a catalyst for enablinghealing to begin. Our aims are quite simply to help alleviatepersonal stress, increase self-confidence and social inclusion ina safe welcoming environment.

Walk into any of our workshops and you’ll see a multitude ofdifferent ‘art mediums’ in use, as everyone works on their owncreative ideas and projects. Our arts workers do not teach inthe traditional sense, but by encouragement and workingalongside participants/students. This allows ownership ofcreative process’s, ideas and enables confidence and self-beliefto grow.

Several members over the years have taken up otheropportunities within the local community, returned toeducation and occasionally employment.

In 2015 we celebrate our tenth birthday an achievement that acouple of years ago we didn’t think would be possible, but webelieve strongly and passionately about the service we provideand more importantly the people that attend and we strive topush ourselves forward, running two weekly sessions inPetersfield, one in Bordon and various outreach projects fromHorndean, Alton and Liss.

Being the Mayors chosen charity for 2014-15, has bought us tothe attention of so many more people. Our uniqueness sets usaside in the heart of our town, making a difference to the livesof our own community and valuing its residents.

We are always looking for private sponsors, businesssponsorship and match funders to support extra outreachwork, and we are registered for gift aid if anyone would beinterested in getting involved.

DEFIBRILLATORS

The Town Council is pleased to say that two new defibrillators have recently been installed nearthe Town Council offices in Heath Road. One is situated inside the Town Hall and the other oneon the west wall of The Festival Hall.

To access one of the machines you will need to remove the plastic cover. The machines requireno training as they talk you through what to do step by step, and they automatically detect if thepatient has a heart beat so they cannot give a shock by mistake. These machines are for use bymembers of the public in case of an emergency.
