SPRINGFIELD – The third and final concert in the Springfield Symphony Or-chestra Chamber Music series will feature the Brass Quintet showing off the beauty, excitement, virtuosity and charm of brass chamber music with a repertoire spanning 300 years from French, German, Canadi-an, Russian and American composers.
The concert will be held at the Twin Hills Country Club, 700 Wolf Swamp Road in Longmeadow, Sunday, April 14 at 2:30 p.m.
The ensemble features Thomas Bergeron, SSO principal trumpet, Dana Russian, SSO third trumpet, Lauren Winter, SSO principal French horn, Paul Bellino, SSO second trombone and John Bottomley, tuba.
Each Chamber Music Concert lasts roughlyly 45 minutes, includes insight and educational commentary on the piec-es being played and offers personal inter-action with musicians.
Doors open at 1:30 p.m. for canapés and a cash bar. The concert starts at 2:30 p.m. Patrons are encouraged to arrive ear-ly as seating is first come, first served. Concert-goers are invited to stay after each concert for a brief post-performance cocktails mix and mingle with that after-noon’s musicians.
Tickets, costing $30 for adults and $15 for ages 4 to 17, may be purchased online at springfieldsymphony.org, by calling 413-733-2291, visiting the box office at 1441 Main St., Springfield or at the door.

Brass Quintet to dazzle at SSO Chamber Music finale
SPRINGFIELD – Musicians from the Springfield Symphony Youth Orches-tra and the Community Music School of Springfield will present a free concert for children ages 4 and older to teach young-sters about the interconnectedness of sports and music.
The concert will be held in the the-ater at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, located at 1000 Hall of Fame Ave., Springfield, Saturday, April 13, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
There will be three ensembles – cel-lo, brass and violin – consisting of ad-vanced student performers playing classi-cal music and pop tunes. In between each segment, there will be demonstrations
and discussions about how sports and music both require teamwork.
The Springfield Symphony Musical Petting Zoo will be available in the lobby where attendees can hold and play a vari-ety of instruments.
Musicians from the Community Mu-sic School will serenade guests as they enter the building.
The event is open seating on a first come, first served basis. Space is limit-ed. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Youth Orchestra partners with BHOF for ‘Hoops and Harmony’
AMHERST – The Amherst Sympho-ny Orchestra will perform a semi-staged performance of Georges Bizet’s tragic masterpiece, the opera “Carmen,” in a condensed, two-act, two-hour production in French, with supertitles, Friday eve-ning, April 12 at 8 p.m. in Buckley Recit-al Hall, Amherst College.
Visiting professional guest artists for “Carmen” include Olga Perez Florida in the title role, James Flora as Don José, Danielle Pastin as Michaela, and Brian Hupp as Escamillo. The Amherst Col-
lege Choral Society, directed by Arianne Abela, joins the cast and orchestra for this performance.
Tickets are available on the day of the concert beginning at 7 p.m. in the lobby of Arms Music Center. Tickets may be pur-chased only at the door. Prices are $10, $5 for senior citizens, students with ID and children under 12, and free to Amherst and all Five College students with ID.

ASO to perform Bizet opera April 12
SPRINGFIELD – The cast has been announced for the Valley Press Club Roast to be held Thursday, April 25 at the John Boyle O’Reilly Club, featuring skits making fun of local celebrities in the news, and by members of the local press.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m., at the club hall, located at 33 Progress Ave. in Springfield. The show begins at 6 p.m. after a social hour.
The cast includes Springfield Mayor Dominick Sarno, Hampden County Sher-iff Nick Cocci and outgoing Westfield Mayor Brian Sullivan on the politicians’ side. On the other side, elected officials will present skits making fun of City Hall Reporter Peter Goonan, retired TV newsman Ray Hershel, Mike Dobbs of Reminder Publications and radio person-ality Steve Nagle of the Bax and O’Brien
radio show on Rock 102. The show will be emceed by well-known political con-sultant Tony Cignoli. Tyler Witkop, edi-tor of The Wilbraham-Hampden Times and Chicopee Register newspapers, will be in charge of the raffle.
Proceeds from the Roast will bene-fit journalism scholarships given by the Press Club to local high school seniors pursuing college careers in journalism.
The Press Club Roast follows in the footsteps of the White House Correspon-dents Dinner held in Washington, D.C., which made headlines by being boycot-ted by President Trump last year. There will be a cash bar and refreshments. Tickets are $20 and can be obtained in advance from Press Club members or at the door. Tickets are also available online at Eventbrite- Valley Press Club.
