1. New Petitions: The Committee will consider the following new petitions—
PE824 Culture and tourism policies regarding Robert Burns. Peter Watson, Chair, Alloway & Doonfoot Community Council will make a brief statement in support of his petition accompanied by Allan Paterson and Brian Woods. PE826 NHS services in rural areas. PE825 Lockers for school pupils’ use. PE823 Legislation requiring hotels to fit flame-retardant curtains.

The Committee will consider the following current petitions— PE482 Petition calling for the Scottish Parliament to take the necessary steps to
(a) make compulsory for assailants and others who have exposed or potentially exposed police officers to a risk of infection, to submit to a blood test or tests which will be made available to the police officer should he so wish and (b) amend the Data Protection Act 1998 so that the result of those tests may be retained on the Police National Computer.
PE500 Petition calling for the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Executive to
increase, at the earliest possible date, the amount on offer to former members of the Scottish Transport Group Pension Funds so that they receive maximum benefit from the pension funds surplus.
PE528 Petition calling for the Scottish Parliament to conduct an inquiry into the
consequences for the transport infrastructure in Scotland of competition in the field of on-site and off-site car parking at Scottish airports, and to amend such legislation as it may consider appropriate.
PE535 Petition calling for the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Executive to
(a) make an inquiry into past institutional child abuse, in particular for those children who were in the care of the State under the supervision of religious orders and (b) make unreserved apology for said State bodies and to urge the religious orders to apologise unconditionally.
PE741 Petition by John Foster, on behalf of Govan Community Council, calling for
the Scottish Parliament to initiate an inquiry into the impact of Scottish Executive and Scottish Enterprise development targets and incentives on balanced and sustainable development at community level.
PE749 Petition by Geoffrey Kolbe, on behalf of Newcastleton and District
Community Council, calling for the Scottish Parliament to seek a moratorium on the spreading of sewage sludge pending a full inquiry into its safety by a parliamentary committee and depending on the outcome of that inquiry, to as a minimum, initiate legislation at the earliest opportunity to

discontinue the current exemptions for spreading sewage sludge and to ensure that it is subject to planning control, including a public local enquiry.
PE712 Petition calling for the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Executive to
ensure that Greenbelt land is given the appropriate legal protection. PE724 Petition calling for the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Executive to
review its policy on green belt sites. PE781 PE781 Petition by John Stewart Heselden calling for the Scottish
Parliament to commemorate the 700th anniversary of Sir William Wallace’s death on 23 August 2005; to mark the date an annual event in the Scottish calendar thereafter; to acknowledge on public record that William Wallace was not guilty of the charge of treason laid before him, and to make representations to the UK Parliament for a declaration of his innocence and that he be exonerated of this charge.
PE807 Petition by James Mackie calling for the Scottish Parliament to urge the
Scottish Executive to conduct an inquiry into the influence of supermarkets in the food chain, and to examine in particular safety issues arising from the use of chemicals to extend the shelf life of products and from central purchase and distribution and the impact of supermarket trading on local economies and small producers.
