The Launch Place energizes and diversifies our regional economy

Brief History about The Launch Place

- Established in August 2004 based on industry demand to provide business consulting services to existing and emerging business

- Modeled after the Virginia Tech BTC

- Officially opened on May 17, 2005 in Martinsville as an independent 501 (c)(3) with a 12 member regional BOD

- Opened Danville office in 2008 at the DRBDC

- Received funding from HF, Tobacco Commission, VA state, EDA, DRF, Southside locales, and client fees

- Delivered over 200 in-depth multi-phase business consulting projects and assisted over 400 businesses, non-profits and municipalities

Today: The Launch Place

• SBTC officials realized that the organization needed to rebrand itself to reflect what the organization was doing.

• During this rebranding process, the organization was awarded an unprecedented $10 million grant for five years from DRF.

• The organization increased its capacity to deliver its traditional business consulting services and earned the new capacity to recruit and retain entrepreneurs.

• The Launch Place was born.

Seed Fund Eligibility Guidelines:

• Focus industries: IT, software, engineering and electronic related products, bio-materials, medical device, healthcare products and green energy.

• Fill out an application for consideration• Provide a business plan projecting market

position, capital strategy, management team development, risk factors and potential growth analysis

• Adhere to The Launch Place’s due diligence processes

• Willing to relocate to the Danville region for 3 years

• Projected job growth in 3 to 5 years

- Potential syndication and deal structuring with other Angels

- Financial Mechanisms:

A. Convertible debt – company borrows money from an investor and the

intention of both is to convert the debt to equity at some later date.
