JUDGING AND TRADE DAY Thursday 8 September 2016

PUBLIC SHOW DAY Saturday 10th September 2016

Page 2: PUBLIC SHOW DAY

WELCOME FROM CHRISTOPHER STILTON

THIS decade is a simply extraordinary time to be involved in the cheese industry. This extends to the Frome Cheese Show and its massively popular Global Cheese

Awards (GCAs). The industry is facing dynamic change — both in the manufacturing and retail sector — and we, as a show, are mirroring this change in terms of the

increasing number and diversity of the small manufacturers who come and demonstrate their wonderful cheeses at the GCAs and those who stay on to sell their produce to the public at Saturday’s incredible showcase event. Every year more than 20,000 members of the public, huge numbers of them cheese lovers, enthusiasts and experts, pass through our gates to enjoy the many facets of the Frome Cheese Show. The Cheese Committee and the organisers of the GCA and

Frome Cheese Show acknowledge too the role played by delicatessens in providing a shop window for producers’ produce via our popular local deli competition.

The success of the Frome Cheese Show and Global Cheese Awards are due in no small part to Brenda Scott, who worked tirelessly for 11 years, during which time

she doubled the size of the show and extended its already excellent reputation onto the global stage. She is now succeeded in the role of secretary by Julie Harding, a journalist with 25 years’ experience of the country and country matters (she writes regularly for Country Life magazine), as well as marketing and PR. It is

Julie’s dream to grow the show and the GCAs even further, taking cheese to an ever wider audience. To facilitate this the general show website is already undergoing a revamp. Log on to www.fromecheeseshow.co.uk and take a look, while the Global

Cheese Awards are still promoted via www.globalcheeseawards.com.

My plan as the new GCA/cheese committee chairman is to consolidate the changes made by Mark Evans last year, not least in growing last year’s hugely successful trade dinner. This was enjoyed by all, greatly aided by the delicious food provided by A Bit of a Do (who are booked again this year). This year, judges, exhibitors, sponsors and

guests, as well as local delicatessen owners, are all encouraged to savour the fabulous food and awards ceremony. Can you afford to miss it?

And finally… the Frome Cheese Show and GCAs wouldn’t be able to run without our generous sponsors. They find that supporting us leads to better exposure for them and their brands, plus they have days out to remember. If you wish to support us we

will welcome you and work with you to ensure that your money reaps rewards for you.

CHRISTOPHER STILTON Chairman, Global Cheese Awards/Cheese Committee Frome Cheese Show
